"Become a follower of Otis"

Last Saturday, a movement started, the crest of a beautiful creative wave hit Galway. Three musicians decided to dedicate themselves to something, it's not about the money, it's not about the chicks, it's just about the music. Within less than a week of forming, they landed a gig in the Roisin Dubh, upstairs, where the Crusties, the Scensters and the Emos forget what group they're trying to fit into and just listen to what's being played in the corner. Three unassuming musicians took to the stage for their debut performance; they called themselves The Followers of Otis. They invited the crowd to become followers too; everyone in the audience was given a free demo disc and a badge saying 'I'm a follower of Otis'. The audience, shocked at the rare prospect of leaving a free gig with a free CD were unsure of the movement, but were soon convinced by the lead singer's dulcet tones into the mike; "Go on, take it, do ya not like music or something?"
And thus a cult is born. Three men, a guitar, a base, a glockenspiel, white scarves and altruism, all forged into a simple spiritual force behind one main aim, to make great music in the name of Otis.
And the music is better than good, unlike most cults; this one has a catchy soundtrack. The four tracks that they currently have on the demo (and their myspace page; Myspace. com/thefollowersofotis) are amazing, the production quality for a CD produced over a couple of days is staggering. The music is reminiscent of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club mixed with the Beach Boys. Check it out and become a follower of Otis. Expect to see a lot more of them around Galway.

Bio

The Followers of Otis hail from the seaside metropolis of Galway City and were forged in the fire of its local music scene from an all star line up. Brother Danny and Brother Eoin have a long history going back to the heady days of performing with The Vice in the Gaf Café when they were barely fully formed from their mother’s womb. They then graduated to the man-band that is Tahiti’s Dream and made quite a name for themselves on the local scene; kicking out the jams at all the venues that Galway has to offer and more…but the lights of Galway weren’t quite bright enough and they soon found themselves heading to Liverpool to find fame and fortune. Having studied under the guru that is Honza, they returned to Galway bigger and better than ever and ready to take on the world. But there was one piece of the puzzle missing. They found this missing piece in the shape of Brother Brian, a mystical figure who was busy expanding his songbook and honing his musical talents high up in his fortress above CPs nightclub, an oasis amid the cultural desert where hippie jam fests carry on long into the night. Some call it a cult, others call it a movement, others say it doesn’t matter what you call it, anything that sounds that good, can’t be a bad thing.* *With their latest release of recorded material, Followers including Sister Róisín have been drawn towards enlightenment. An open path awaits all those who wish to follow. Look, find, follow. Peace and Coco pops, Brother Kevin (Minister for Literature and Human Understanding)
