On sat october 10, The Forgotten launch their latest single, Firestorm, at the rocket room. They will be supoorted by Blackwater Station, Smiling Assassins, and Stella's kitchen.

Most local music fans would know kris goodwin from subtruck. So chances are, his new band, The Forgotten will surprise a few folks, Far less brutal-sounding, with more of a focus on melody, The Forgotten finds Goodwin as less of the metronomic hard-hitter, and more relaxed and playful behind the kit. Naturally, this comes down to the two bands being of completely differnt styles, but specifically for Goodwin it comes down to reshaping the way he plays in order to get the vibe he's after.

"I'm a lot more conscious of what's going on around me with this band, so i play whatever is needed to be played. Sometimes this means there'll be no fills at all in a song, and the drums just carry it, and sometimes it means that the drums are right up front, keeping on top of what the other guys are playing".

"This band actually started with me and greg[Zade] the bass player, so a lot of our songs were written as a rthym section, we were concentrating on what we were doing and we were keeping a lot of room open for guitars and vocals. Rosie[Mead] guitarist, was the last to join, so he basically came in and put his stuff over the top of these songs, adding colour to them. His a great guitarist because he pulls out these cheeky riffs a lot that add lilttle bits where the songs needs them, he plays big riffs as well, but his cheeks riffs are tthe best. As a drummer I listen to what he is doing and play whatever suits those riffs best, whilst still keeping an eye on the rthym section thing that greg and i have going on...so it keeps me on my toes", he says with a grin!
Even though goodwins approach is decidedly diffferent to his approach of old a zebra cant change his stripes (so they say) and the Goodwin signature sound of beating his drums like he's trying to kill them is always lurking in the back ground, waiting to come smashing through.

And thats partly what The Forgotten are all about .....taking a song one place then allowing to go somewhere completely different if it needs to. For all of it's different parts, Goodwin says The Forgottens sound is dliberate and painstakingly thought- out with the end result and goal being total uniqueness.

"The thing i love about this band the most is how original it is, i don't think we sound like any band and thats due to having guy's who all have really different ideas and musical backgrounds, all working on the same song with the same goal in mind. It's refreshing as a musician to be doing something that has the capacity for that originality" (EXTRACT FROM XPRESS FOR "FIRESTORM" SINGLE LAUNCH DATED 7-09-09)
