"Review of A.S.B.P.K.'s Show - 7/23/09 @ Just Jakes (Montclair, NJ)"

ASBPK’s unique style, animated stage presence, and overall talent brought together an audience made up of completely different music tastes. Whether you like rock, reggae, or hip hop, ASBPK blends genres creating a funky, new type of sound. Each of the members is extremely talented, with passion that can only be fully understood when you see them live. I Strongly recommend everyone, no matter your music taste, to get out to see this band and you will be pleasantly surprised! ASBPK will let you into the soul of their music, have you dancing immediately, and leave you with a hunger to hear more. After their phenomenal performance at Just Jakes on July 26th, the first thing I did was check out their website (asbpkmusic.com), hoping there will more shows coming up, and I know you'll do the same.

Bio

The Formatters creatively blend poetic hip-hop style lyrics with powerful jam/classic rock instrumentals. They use only live instruments (no triggered samples) to meld different genres and different styles and make them their own. Many believe they sound like an interesting mix of Typicl Cats, Snoop Dogg, Nas, Red Hot Chili Peppers, 311, The Roots, The Doors & many more.

The band was formed by five close high-school friends looking to make a musical impact. Bored in a common suburban town and unenthusiastic about today’s hit music, The Formatters decided to pick up instruments and try their best to make a difference. They all starting learning their instruments at the same time, and considered themselves a band before they even knew how to write a song. To this day the same five guys are evolving together and constantly creating new material.

To them, there is no such thing as a small gig. The mark of a great band is its willingness and ability to play the same way in front of 10 people as it would in front of 10,000. They've played in front of crowds of all shapes & sizes - beaches, house parties, small bars, local rock clubs, live radio interviews/sets, and larger venues. They've participated in several independent battle of the bands, a few of which they won (Wayne Hills High School '06 and '07, Yale University '08, Mountain Creek '09 and hopefully The Jersey Showdown '09!). And they plan to do more of the same. They are not waiting around for their big break-- they're chasing it.

So far, The Formatters have knocked out one short 4-song EP, "Schematics Asthmatics." This EP, along with a wealth of other songs that have yet to be recorded have helped The Formatters land tons of good shows throughout New Jersey and New York City-- most notably at Six Flags Great Adventure and renowned venue, Starland Ballroom (on two separate occasions). They are making steady progress and plan to continue creating good original material and recruiting many friends and fans along the way. They are constantly excited to play shows and will almost never turn down an opportunity to play.

One love,

Ant, Chris B, Matt C, Tatz & Joe
