The Fountain and the Figurehead

The Fountain & The Figured = More than the sum of it's parts. The Parts = Kyle Burcke, second generation musician born to two classically trained woodwind players who specialize in Baroque and Renaissance music, born with a guitar in his hand. Michael DeFord, piano pounder tempered by four years of music theory and technique instruction, frustrated by an apparent inability to improvise for the duration of his degree-seeking life. James Endsley, Saxophonist estranged from the life of music performance for over four years. Cody Clifton, casual bass player who had never performed in a band setting, playing only for his own enjoyment. The sum = Four individuals bent on playing music that challenges their own technical ability and writing chops and the listener's ear, deadened by years of radio-friendly pop music and easily digestible top 40 hits. The goal = Not fame. Not fortune. No pipe dreams of "gracing" the cover of a Rolling Stone magazine that listed Miley Cyrus's "Party in the USA" as the best song of 2010 and Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" as the greatest composition of the last decade. The goal is good music that is fun to play. Music that is equally available to bob your head to in the car or sit down with for a critical listen. Music that puts equal weight on orchestrated composition and searing jazz improv. The outcome = Yet to be seen.
