Bio

Ms. Zyanda Anntoinette Johnson is an actress, director, playwright and storyteller. She recently completed writing “The Fragrance of Freedom”, a 90 minute solo performance piece on the life of feminist and slave Harriet Ann Jacobs. Ms. Johnson will be touring this historical piece on the US college circuit in the fall of 2012.
As a Director she has several credits, and in 2006 received a Silver Telly award from PBS for her direction of the play turned documentary A Killing in Choctaw, which featured comedian Carl Raye. Anntoinette has film, infomercial and voiceover credits as well including but not limited to; featured roles in the films Golden Gate and Purple Breasts, commercials for Mervyns department store, and voiceovers for Scholastic books.
She has appeared in theatre productions of Jar the Floor, The Colored Museum, Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, From the Mississippi Delta, Home, Spunk, A Raisin’ in the Sun, Sisters, For Colored Girls… and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Papers Project for Stanford University.
A seasoned Storyteller, she recently developed and produced the “Tales from the Quilts” fundraiser and “The Talking Stick” youth storytelling workshop. She has created and performed storytelling programs for several schools and libraries in the San Jose and Santa Clara school California districts and for the Fairmont hotels.
