"SpinDown"

April 5, 2006

"The Franklin Kite have roots in Cambridge, Mass., and Portsmouth, but their music is from outer space. Early this year, they launched an eponymous six-song EP, complete with a floating astronaut on the cover. “Rocket Girl” is a tune about a rocket boy who expresses his love for his space lady, while “The Innovator” explores more serious emotional ground. Their ambient indie rock songs feature the usual suspects—guitar, drums and bass, but they throw in some keyboards, loops and other digitally created tricks to keep you guessing. " - The Wire, Portsmouth, NH

"The clever, edgy scientifico lyrics and the dynamic blend of rock/pop/electric, TFK renders a presentation all its own."

"Since the Boston-based band achieved "liftoff" in the spring of 2005, the Kite has engaged and amused various audiences."

"The lyrics are artful and one should pay careful attention to their detail."

- Somerville News

January 12, 2006

"The Franklin Kite, an indie/electronic rock trio with two members from Portsmouth, have played around New England but finally make their first live appearance in New Hampshire on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at Muddy River Smokehouse in Portsmouth."

"The Franklin Kite wrap their original tunes with a few choice covers into a crowd-involved live show that's great to listen to and to dance to. The band has toured across New England and are excited to be making their first appearance in "the home city" with Tulip Sniper and other bands sharing the bill."

"Rock for Science"

July 11, 2006

Fire up your laptops, polish your beakers: The science-loving Cambridge rock band The Franklin Kite is playing a show at the Bulfinch Yacht Club this Friday to benefit their favorite science-loving candidate, Christopher Gabrieli.

The band (named for Ben's experiment) features an astrophysicist and two "computer experts" from Portsmouth, NH. Their bio says their music "harnesses the huge potential of a laptop-integrated live performance, creating a sound that is glitch-pop meets the Beastie Boys" and promises its live show will "both engage your mind and make you shake your behind."

So who says Gabrieli's backers are trailing Deval Patrick in terms of net savvy?

The event will feature a meet and greet with Gabrieli from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by live music from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $5, the door take benefits campaign. You've got to be 21 to attend. - Boston.com
