"'Suzy Can't Spell' Review"

A wholly unique and refreshing offering...this is epic, cinematic, arena filling music that glides effortlessly from genre to genre. There is something here for everyone, in any given mood... Here is a band without a formula; each song has a life and mind of its own. With diligently crafted lyrics, irresistible melodies that grow on you by the listen, and a sometimes blistering velocity, The Franks sound like the Beatles cooking for Nirvana at a garden party. The band's soon to be released debut album: 'Suzy Can't Spell' promises to be a landmark title. - E. Coppinger, UK Album Reviews (Aug '07)

"Fireline Review"

The Franks are a difficult band to describe, but here goes: there are songs that make you want to go outside and scream; there are songs that make you burst into tears; there are songs when you might even want to dance. The lyrics seem unilaterally steeped in pessimism - chances missed, incompatible love and the pain of introspection - but there's something about them that makes you not want to end it all; instead, you just put on the music again. They don't seem to be trying hard to be different, and yet they are. At a time where world-weary means tight-jeaned indie, emotional means EMO, and 'popular' means affected, this is odd, exciting, and refreshingly honest. - Fireline Music Magazine (Nov '07)

"Ammunition clip"

With melody too often lost in a postmodern sea of jaunty banality, The Franks are bringing it back with their arm-flailingly energetic, sophisticated, and often heartrending anthemic rock... - Ammunition Magazine (Spring '07)

"Subba-Cultcha Review"

Mightily impressive indie bluster with the melodic genius of Razorlight, the driving urgency of The Replacements and the irresistible hooks of The Coral - Subba-Cultcha (October '06)

Bio

The Franks played this year's Glastonbury festival after being selected out of over 2300 entrants in the final top 12 of Q Magazine's New Talent competition; just this year they've supported buzz band Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong, Fun Loving Criminals, The Maccabees and The Courteeners to name a few, enjoyed airplay on Radio 1, were featured as DJ Vic Galloway's record of the week on his podcast, and their tracks are currently used for web advertisement for Pepe Jeans and promotion for 7 Digital.

Formed in 2006, this North London quartet have headlined some of the UK’s most well-known stages including the Clapham Grand and several of Carling Academy’s venues across the country. In addition to Glastonbury, they’ve played festivals and industry events like Go North, OxJam, Gig4Life and Nottingham University’s Summer Party, drawing crowds of over 1,000. They’ve toured across America's East Coast, headlining at venues like the Knitting Factory and Arlene's Grocery (New York) as well as The Khyber
(Philadelphia).

Last year, the group took a brief hiatus from touring due to University commitments scattering them across Europe (Paris, Madrid, Sunderland and Edinburgh); nonetheless, after lots of busking in foreign metros, webcams and phone calls, they managed to create enough new material to record their first digital
release ‘Suzy Can’t Spell’ (released April ‘08).

Having just finished their degrees, The Franks are busy preparing for their tour of America’s West Coast, which will culminate in the recording of a brand new EP at one of San Francisco’s most reputable studios.

With sensational live performances, scintillating guitar hooks and addictive lyrics, expect to hear a lot more from them in the near future.
