Bio
Suburbia's a boring place if there isn't anything fun to listen to, so we set out to make music to elevate any listener from the droning norm that is Pickering, Ontario. With origins lying in 2 other Pickering bands, The Free Cosmics haven't played quite as many gigs as the average band, but the individual experiance of the members can be traced to bands who have opened for such acts as No Use For A Name and Bigwig, at the Docks, and Social Code at the same venue, but a different date, or having played alongside Tokyo Police Club.
Influences come as a barrage of personal tastes for us, with the highest debt lying towards bands like Sonic Youth, Television, The Flaming Lips, Led Zepplin, Dinosaur Jr., Franz Ferdinand and Pavement, but at the same time, inspiration lies in bands much further than those mentioned.
A real thrill in being a member of the Free Cosmics is the freedom of sound...one moment we can be jamming to heavy blues, to suddenly dipping our fingers into the pool that is hardcore punk, or even shifting into a dance-pop swagger. Variety is what we aim for in a live show; we try to bring our audience along for a ride through any and every genre we have the slightest fancy for.
