Bio
In the 1990's the Freight Hoppers gained a reputation as a high energy string band playing old time music with passion and energy like no others. Founding members Frank Lee (banjo) and David Bass fiddle) are now teaming up with a new rhythm section with veteran performers Thomas Bailey on guitar and Isaac Deal on bass.
David's fiddle playing drives the band with fire and energy. Frank Lee propels that energy into hyperspace with his clawhammer style banjo playing and adds a vocal style that connects the audience with the stories, humor, spirituality, and soul of the Appalachian traditions.
This time around the Freight Hoppers are hitting the road with a new and powerful rhythm section. Thomas Bailey on guitar comes from a broad musical background, from punk rock to jazz, but the old time songs he heard his Dad and uncles singing at home in the mountains of southern Virginia are whats in his blood. Isaac Deal anchors the bottom end of the band on the upright bass. He also hits the high notes with a tenor voice thats sweet and full of natural exuberance.
