Bio

The most vibrant, subversive and exciting aspect of any culture exists not in the main stream – but on The Fringes of society. This is a mantra we as a band celebrate!

We are two sets of childhood friends -- all Southern California natives. Hailing from Pasadena -- Matt Case (lead guitar) and Paul Allen (Drums) have been playing together since diapers. From the beaches of Laguna -- Ben Nurick (Vox, Guitar) and Alison Hale (Bass) have been jamming together since high school jazz band (they were both saxophone players and have been known to bust it out on the horn funk tip when the itch needs scratchin’).

The Fringes share a love of great blues influenced classic rock (Hendrix, Zepplin, Stooges) and dirtier takes on the model (The White Stripes, The Dirtbombs, MORHINE) as well as Jazz, Funk, and Reggae. As with anyone not preoccupied with trying to fit in we don’t feel the need to commit to a specific genre. Just following our musical passions.

In October of 2008 we finished our first self-produced record “The Fringes” consiting of 8 tracks. The song “Christine” was licensed in the summer of 2009 in the Feature Film “Waiting For Forever” starring Rachel Bilson, Tom Stuttridge, Blyth Danner, Jamie King, and Richard Jenkins.

The Fringes are currently back in the studio -- this time with the expertise of grammy award winning producer Ton Biller (TBIller) who’s recent credits include the soundtrack of “Where the Wild Things Are” with Karen O as well as numerous projects with mega composer Jon Brion. The album will be released in February of 2010. Touring will follow.
