"The Fuegos - Every Boy Dreams (EP)"

The Fuegos, a four-person band from London, recently released their EP Every Boy Dreams on independent label Night Hawk Records. With their number of fans just shy of 1000 the band, Thomas Sims, Gareth Freedman, Matthew Manning, and Daniel Brown, can expect that number to rise thanks to this fantastic EP.

With a slow but satisfying build up of simple drumming and synth Pulse features great variation in terms of sound and plenty of effects that make it pop. Lyrically catchy and optimistic Pulse demonstrates the first rate vocal talents of front-man Thomas Sims and is well complimented by the use of harmonies and short bursts of elaborate guitar playing.

Beginning more like a traditional rock song, with rising and falling tempo, Against The World sees the band work together well. With bass constantly at its root the track, much like its predecessor Pulse, uses effects and interesting instrumentation to really make it stand out.

A slower, calmer song begun with sparse and sombre piano playing, almost choral harmonies, and haunting synth Electricity is a great example of a love song. Eventually picking up the pace with walking bass and low strung guitar playing it remains a lot simpler than the first two songs and makes for a nice change.

A lot more technical “Hurts”, with its strangely familiar main riff, brings in the second half of the EP. Working as a nice follow-on from Electricity Hurts, all about the pain found at the end of love, is one of the record’s most exceptional tracks.

Sharing a slightly similar riff with No One Knows by Queens Of The Stone Age Money has a completely different vibe to the rest of the EP. Lyrically memorable and very catchy with lines like “some people stop and stare, well he must be so clever he’s a fucking millionaire” the song is a great example of the band’s song writing.

The last track Seven Tears begins, much like the opener, with a strong build up. Classy lyrics and decent playing along with impressively done gang vocals make this track the perfect crescendo to an excellent record.

Every Boy Dreams is a great EP from a great band. Make sure you keep an eye out for The Fuegos. - Andrew Nicholls - Hevy Petal

"Against The World Review"

"...Against The World is an accomplished and exciting track that promises to be fantastic both live, and accompanying an album which is sure to carry a party-for-the-cool-kids vibe throughout."

Bio

Purveyors of a unique blend of rock, synth, classical violin and choral harmonies, The Fuegos have been around in various guises since October 2010 - though a few changes in line-up and a change in name for the usual legal reasons means that the band you know and love have been in existence for barely a summer at the time of writing. Founding members Thomas Sims, Gareth Freedman, Daniel P Brown and Matthew Manning are all still involved at the core of the project.

Hitting the ground running in 2011, their first full year, the band kicked off the Spring in Leicester Square, London after the release of their début single Against The World, which charted at an impressive #3 in the Tourdates.co.uk Original Unsigned Chart. They went on to clock up some impressive performances in Hoxton, Camden Dingwalls and The HMV Forum, Kentish Town before the summer was through. They featured heavily on internet radio, including a live to air session (where the band first met Steve Honest) for Recharged Radio in June. The season wrapped up with second single release Money, which went straight to #1 in the TOUC and held the position for 5 consecutive weeks.

In the Autumn months of 2011 the band recorded their début EP 'Every Boy Dreams' with Steve Honest at Hackney Road, and this saw the introduction of extra vocals and instrumentation from Dawn O'Leary & Jade Brightwell, who would later join the group permanently. The release was launched 11th November 2011 (ten days after its worldwide digital release through the band's own label 'Night Hawk Records') at Electrowerkz, Angel with support from the superb The Tuesday Club and nate_seacourt.

2012 saw the signing of the band's first deal, with F2Z of Brazil, for exclusive distribution rights throughout South America for the 6 piece's début full length album, to be released in early 2013. The band have recorded some demos for this set with Adam Helal, which can be heard on various websites, but never saw an 'official' release.

December of this year marks the release of their first ever music video, interestingly enough for their first ever single 'Against The World'.
