Bio

With the success of their sophomore
album ‘The Greatest Hits’ (2006),
Funkoars have built a passionate
and dedicated following throughout
Australia. Attaining cult-like support
with their outrageous lyrics and
explosive live shows, they are forever
cemented in the upper echelons of
Australian Hip-Hop.
Funkoars is founded on the unique
essences of Mr. Trials (Producer/MC),
Uncle Sesta (Producer/MC), Sketchy
Hons (MC) and DJ Reflux (Producer/
DJ), born in 2000 through Adelaide’s
esteemed Certified Wise crew, a name
synonymous with some of Australia’s
greatest Hip-Hop talent including
Hilltop Hoods and DMC Champ
Staen-1. The Oars have positioned
themselves at the forefront of
this ever-growing movement with
their unique and unrelenting style,
never compromising music for the
trappings of success.
Their debut album, ‘Who’s Your Step
Daddy’ (2002), garnered them the
mantle of OZ Hip-Hop’s rowdiest
group and was followed in 2006 by
‘The Greatest Hits’. This audacious
release subjects the listener to a
raucous journey of excess, leaving
you spent and slightly soiled at its
conclusion. It truly captures the
reckless spirit that is Funkoars.
‘The Greatest Hits’ was toured
extensively throughout Australia
in 2006, allowing Funkoars the
opportunity to perform next to local
and international superstars including
Public Enemy, Apathy & Celph
Titled, Milkbar Stars and Gangstarr.
Supporting Hilltop Hoods on their
2006 national ‘The Hard Road’ launch
tour, a massive 2007 Big Day Out show
to a 2000 strong crowd and a major
highlight of 2007’s Obese Records
National Block Party Tour, listeners
around Australia have embraced
Funkoars as one of the wildest live
acts in the county. They are filling a
void in Australian Hip-Hop by simply
being themselves, keeping it stank,
surly and most of all slamming. Just
like Hip-Hop should be.
Maintaining an ever-vigilant presence
in the Oz Hip-Hop scene, Funkoars
have collaborated on recent releases
from Obese stable-mates Pegz and
DJ Bonez, while Trials has featured
as guest producer on a number of
standout recordings. As primary
producer of Vents’ 2007 debut album
‘Hard To Kill’, he has backed up his
outstanding solo release, ‘For The
Ladies’, with an album already widely
touted as one of the year’s best.
September 2007 witnessed over 900
loyal Funkoars fans cram into HQ,
Adelaide for the filming of the crew’s
debut live DVD, to be released shortly
on Obese Records. Such wild support
shows beyond a doubt that The Oars
are only going to grow in stature as
the Oz Hip-Hop movement continues
to usurp the consciousness of the
Australian Mainstream.
