QUICK FACTS:

- Formed in 2003 by Ben Miller (bass), and Phil Skladowski (baritone saxophone)
- Twelve pieces, including two trumpets, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophone, keyboards, guitar, bass, drums, and three vocalists, one male and two female
- Major Influences include: Tower Of Power, Earth Wind and Fire, Prince, Jamiroquai, and the Jackson 5
- Span the styles of: Funk, Motown, Rock, R+B, and Pop, with and without vocals
- Band is comprised of past Humber College music students; live performance is our profession
- Have been very well received at a variety of corporate functions, as well as at weddings and Bar Mitzvahs, and have played successful shows @ venues such as Ryerson University, The St. Lawrence Hall, Lee’s Palace, The Horseshoe, Holy Joe’s and the Hooch to full houses of dancing crowds
- We possess all of our own equipment, including a state-of-the-art P.A. system; No worrying about extra set-up/equipment rentals!
- We have enough music in our repertoire to satisfy any specific event requirements

LONG BIO:

Back in the dark days of 2003, there was no Funktion. No bright light
to spread the joy of music, nowhere to turn for an unadulterated,
blistering funk experience. Then, there was Ben Miller and Phil
Skladowski, two like-minded Humber College music students who would
steal away at night to share their passion for funk, soul, and R+B,
listening to the likes of Tower of Power, Earth Wind and Fire, and
Jamiroquai. Presented with the wealth of talent available at Humber
College's prestigious music program, it seemed to the two young funk
connoisseurs that the only logical step would be to start a massive
funk collective of their own.
What a good idea!!
Born out of a deep love for music, and a tightly knit circle of
friends, The Funktion reared its monstrous head, and Ben (the band's
arranger/manager/bassist and singer) couldn't produce music fast
enough to satisfy its insatiable appetite for funk covers, ranging
from the semi-pop stylings of Michael Jackson and Prince to the old
faithfuls of Tower of Power and Earth Wind and Fire, to the modern and
crisp arrangements of Beyonce and John Legend.
Fast forward to 2008, where the successful cover band saw itself
playing to massive grooving crowds in a wide variety of settings,
including weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, and corporate events, and also in
some of Toronto's hippest club venues, including Lee's Palace, The
Horseshoe, The Hooch, and Holy Joe's, leaving respective club managers
with nothing to do except happily invite the band back again and
again. Bursting with enthusiasm and well-rehearsed and confident
playing, the only thing bigger than the band itself is the energy it
transmits to its audiences, and the non-compromising conviction
displayed by its twelve members. With a full compliment of lead and
backup singers and dancers, a large and thunderous horn section, and
infectious rhythms that are impossible to sit still to, this band gets
the party going, big-time.
With years of experience under its belt, The Funktion has live
performance down to an extremely charismatic art. In concert is where
this band belongs, a fact that becomes abundantly clear as soon the
musicians take the stage. If your event needs a high-energy,
electrical storm of a band to get everyone on their feet and dancing
to some great music, then The Funktion is certainly for you. See you
