Bio

The Fuzzy Flow mastermind is New York based saxophonist Shane Kirsch. He debuted on the live music scene in the early 90s. After joining the Hudson Valley super-group Perfect Thyroid, he quickly learned the ropes of playing live. In a band that averaged 250 gigs a year, he honed in on his craft, learning from some of the best musicians in the area.

From extensive gigging and touring, Kirsch connected with talent from around the globe constantly absorbing new ideas but always with a foot deep in Funk, Jazz and Acid-Jazz. Kirsch found himself on stage at The 1998 Montreal Jazz Festival with Burlington, VT based band Belizbeha and ran a 2 year stint with them until the year 2000 where he joined with Sonando, a 9-piece Latin band from The Hudson Valley. Kirsch stuck with them for 9 years.

During that time, Kirsch was lucky enough to hook up with one of his idols, George Clinton and played numerous shows with the P-Funk mob traveling the east coast as well as Spain. Kirsch also performed a handful of shows with Michael Franti and Spearhead appearing with them at Mountain Jam 2008 at Hunter Mountain, Hunter, NY.

Kirsch earned his undergraduate degree in Jazz Studies from Purchase College studying with trumpet legend Jon Faddis, pianist Charles Blenzig and many others. In 2005 he went on to earn his Masters in Music Education from Manhattanville College and currently directs music at The Brunswick School in Greenwich, CT where he lives with his wife and 3 boys.

After many years of being a saxophone "sideman", Kirsch decided he was ready to produce his first album entitled "The Fuzzy Flow" with the intent to put together a live band to perform the material. The album features all original compositions with a jazz infused funky undertone.

In 2009, Kirsch finally put together a band that he felt could replicate the feel he was going for. Kirsch reached out to his old friend Alan Evans from the band Soulive and asked if he'd be into producing his album. Without hesitation, Alan had the band in his studio in Deerfield, MA where they banged out a handful of tunes. Around raising his kids and a full-time teaching gig, Kirsch finally completed the 2011 release entitled The Fuzzy Flow - "'Lion in the Cut".

This new album features Kirsch on sax/flute/keys/vox and Alan Evans on drums and percussion as well as:
Michael Bram (Jason Mraz) on drums, Geoff Hartwell on guitar, Chris Vitarello (Jimmy McGriff, Bruce Katz and others) on guitar, Rich Kelly on bass, Chris Burke on keys, Vinny Nobile (Pilfers, Bim Skala Bim) on trombone and other special guests.
