"Was will man mehr?"

Was will man mehr?

Bio

While Espin, the British lead singer, was living in Italy in 2003 he stood with his brother over looking a stream where their Grandfather had successfully avoided capture in the second world war. They were watching a gecko run over the bridge when it miss-judged the edge and fell to its death in the water below. It lay on its back lifeless. The brothers silently pondered the cycle of life. Amazingly, after half a minute of staring at its dead body they saw it wriggle suddenly. It came back to life and swam to the shore. They were impressed and Espin named his new electronic guitar project The Gecko.

However, not so long ago The Gecko also looked like it was dead in the water.

The band had been founded with Moritz, a charismatic but unpredictable German/Sicilian guitar player and producer. It moved to Berlin where Moritz was based and Carsten joined The Gecko. He was a revolutionary addition because Carsten plays the Mini Moog bass and synthesisers simultaneously so the music is much tighter and more electronic than many live bands. Pascal joined and brought with him his distinctive drumming style and quickly they got noticed. The Gecko gave one of their charged performances in a sweaty underground club in Kreuzberg and were approached by Lars, a successful band manager. Through Four Artists he organised Gecko concerts around Germany and Austria with Gods of Blitz and they independently toured the UK. Everything looked very positive until a record deal with Road Runner Records fell through mid-2008 and Moritz, disillusioned, left the band.

The injured band stumbled on and eventually found a new lease of life in the form of Samuel. With theoretical and experimental roots Samuel's guitar playing gives The Gecko a wider and more dynamic reach. The sound is even richer than before and the songs breathe with new energy. The Gecko by name, The Gecko by nature.

The band draws their influences from a vast pool, from Kraftwerk, Underworld and Hot chip to The Cure, Gang of Four, Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. The tracks can be hymn-like, dancy, intense and rocky, however, they always sound like The Gecko.
