"Get on the guest list for SoundDiego LIVE XIV"

On Sept. 29, we're happy to bring Dead Feather Moon, who have been making a serious impact on the local scene in a very short amount of time. We also have the Get Down Automatic, a two-piece band who recently rocked the Casbah so hard, we couldn't wait to ask them back.

Bio

Maybe it's in the name, but Matt Manders and Matt Sutherland know how to play together. These two guys with the same name have been honing their skills together in various projects around Southern California since 2002 and are now the guitar player and drummer of The Get Down Automatic, a two piece rock band from San Diego. "We've really found something great this time," says Manders about the new project. "We've cut down on a lot of the excess and kept it straightforward. We’ve been focusing on good grooves and good lyrics.”

The Get Down Automatic has released their first EP and are currently playing shows in support of it. The CD is available for download for free at thegetdownautomatic.bandcamp.com or free at any show. Their do it yourself attitude has afforded them the ability to record and distribute a professional CD, book their own shows and create merchandise themselves. "It gives everything a personal touch that people really respond to," says Sutherland.

Manders' solid beats get toes tapping and heads moving, and play effortlessly off Sutherland, whose guitar lines are raw, loose and catchy. The vocal lines draw on blues and soul, and a subtle word play comes though under the hooks. No autotune here – just live vocals straight up. “Our last band had a lot of musicians and we put out a 12 track concept album,” says Sutherland. “Since then, we’ve really found a need to stop over thinking things and just play good music and play it well.” They've held back and decided to go with straight, unapologetic Rock and Roll, with all the goodies like a dirty lead guitar and solid beats.

So, I'll keep it simple (the Matts like it like that) and stop there. The rest you'll have to get by listening for yourself.
