The Get Down Syndrome is a collective of highly trained musicians, devoted to breaking down musical barriers while having a good time. The horn heavy lyrically charged band mixes elements of jazz, hip-hop, and funk to create their own sound. The Get Down draws from a wealth of original material as well as interpretations of tunes by the likes of John Coltrane, Otis Redding, and Outkast. The improvisatory nature of the band guarantees that every individual show will be a unique experience.
The Get Down Syndrome got its start shakin’ booties at house parties on the UWSP campus. The music consisted of jazz standards and hip-hop grooves that the group took turns blowing over. Soon enough The Get Down was in high demand and they started to branch off playing monthly shows in Madison at the Glass Nickel and starting the Recreational Rhythms music festival. Currently, The Get Down Syndrome is in the process of recording their first CD The Cost Of Living.
