Bio

We're not a classic rock band and we ain't no lounge act!

The Getters' name came from a thing in a vacuum tube (as in tube amp: Fender, Marshall, etc) called a "getter" which glows red hot and helps to make that beautiful analog tone that we dig so very much. This all kind of goes way back to a gig Peter was playing in Syracuse, thru an old brown Fender Pro tube amp that actually went up in flames onstage, making sweet tones as it died.

Our sound is like a battered '62 Fender bass locked into a heavy groove drummer, building a cloud for a guitar pushing an overdriven marshall amp. Funky, clean and bright to dirty and dark to twangy, we like to make a good song rather than individual virtuosity altho we can step out too.

Together or separately we've played with, jammed with, opened for, shared stages with a bunch of our favorite people who helped shape our style, including: Buckwheat Zydeco, Clapton, Canned Heat, Steppenwolf, the great Barrence Whitfield (and the Savages), guitarist-genius David Brown (Billy Joel, Simon & Garfunkel, McCartney, etc), early Ronnie Dio, Led Zeppelin, The King of Zydeco Roy Carrier (and The Night Rockers), Urban Horsethieves, Los Blancos, Sammy Naquin and The Zydeco Whips (New Orleans), Louisiana's Al Berard (Basin Bros Band, Le Traiteurs, Sonny Landreth), Steve Riley (and The Mamou Playboys), and even Whoopi - a very cool singer indeed!

Other influences include: the whole cool Louisiana-Texas blues-rock-r&b-zydeco scene, from Austin to SW Louisiana on to New Orleans; people like Jimmy Vaughn, Eddie "Guitar Slim" Jones, Freddie King, Albert Collins, Tony Joe White (The King of Swamp Rock), Billy Gibbons/ZZ Top. We like some of the great guitar gods, Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimi, and also some lions of the next generation: Robben Ford, Sonny Landreth, Eric Johnson, Chris Duarte. We dig British rock -- Yardbirds, Jeff Beck Group, Cream, Stones, Faces, Zeppelin--and American stuff: CCR, Tom P.and the Heartbreakers, Thorogood, ZZ Top, Elvis, even the infamous Blue Cheer.

We come together from many past bands and musical projects and we're all about playing and writing good music that feels good and makes us happy to play it and makes people want to dance, including reworking good covers --all with a focus on groove.

We are kind of an inbred band having played rock, blues, country, americana, even cajun and zydeco but the Getters are certainly making a big power-trio sound, a bit psychedelic, very rock-blues with a rootsy groove.
