Bio

The psychedelic sound collage of The Glass Half first began to take the shape of songs in a Brooklyn apartment sometime around early July of 2010.
Having freshly returned from a few months of traveling in Brazil, French hip-hop producer and beat maker Mathieu "Matmat" Poirot was brimming with ideas and eager to share new influences with his friend, the singer and multi instrumentalist Jonah Byrd.
Having seen him perform in his capacity as frontman and primary songwriter of the Brooklyn band Jigsaw Soul, Mat was familiar with Jonah's work and the two had agreed to take a stab at collaboration when next their paths should cross.
With the only stated intent being that whatever they made should simultaneously move the listener's heart, surprise the ears, provoke dancing and encourage contemplation, they set out on a journey that would find them weaving together disparate elements of psychedelic rock, jazz and hip hop with samba and bossa nova.
The music came effortlessly and poured out joyfully. Soulful vocals were peppered with funk, intricate beats and deft juxtaposition shifted the limits of perception. They were on to something and they knew it. The glass was more than half full, it was full to overflowing. Those first sessions yielded half the album and were followed in March of 2011 with Jonah's trip to France where more writing and recording ensued in Mat's hometown of Nancy. Several mixing sessions and one video shoot later, The Glass Half are set to release their debut on vinyl, as well as CD and downloadable format on French record label LZO in late spring 2012.
