‘Thoughts of a thousand minds’ is the debut EP from local ..Brighton.. band, The Glass Room. Over the six tracks the band delve in to themes of loss, despair and pain, the angst ridden vocals soaring over beautifully layered acoustic guitars and rich atmospheric strings and piano. After the folk-pop of opening track ‘somewhere in between’ and ‘reflections’, which would not be out of place underpinning a sad scene of an Americanised drama series, the band close the curtains and drift into their dark place with the stark and fragile ‘More than me’; emotion seeps from every pore of The Glass Room’s sallow skin. ‘Night of Broken sound’ and ‘For all these sins’ sees this band settle in to what they do best: Off-kilter, beautiful but strangely discordant, atmospheric rock music. ‘For all these sins’, a radiohead-esque rocker, even sees the band swap an acoustic for a slice of overdriven thrashing. But before you all think its all doom and gloom with this three piece, the windows are thrust open and the sun blazes in, like a sprouting stem after a forest fire. Through the rays we are greeted by closing track ‘She said’, which hugs the opening two tracks like the crust of a melancholic sandwich guarding its eerie, space age filling like a guilty secret.
