NEW CD

The vocal ensemble Glas released their first album ”KOPIRIN” on
April 11 2010. The album presents 20 tracks from Glas’ repertoire.

The CD is nominated to a Danish Music Award 2010.

The album's title "Kopirin" is an invented word, an impulsive mix of the Danish word ”kopi” (copy) and the Bulgarian Pirin mountains.

”Copy” because copying is really what the singers in Glas do; they sing Bulgarian folk songs written and rearranged by Bulgarian composers and sung by Bulgarian female choirs. Since 2001, Glas has been working intensively with the musical material, adding new ideas and creating a unique expression which is now the signature of their
seven-women joint venture.

Bulgarian folk music continues to surprise, thrill, touch, and motivate the singers of Glas. That’s why they proudly present themselves as. . .

Copy-cats in the honor of Bulgarian song tradition.

“Glas”, which means “voice” in Bulgarian, was formed in 2001. The septet is working intensively with Bulgarian a capella music, adding new ideas and creating a unique expression which is now the signature of their seven-women joint venture. They have performed at music and cultural venues across Denmark, Sweden, Faroe Islands and Bulgaria.

Glas is formed by talented singers, extremely gifted as soloists who bring the same sensitivity to interpretation apparent in their solo performance to the group setting. Their confidence and exceptional musical talents makes it possible for them as a group to perform complex compositions that are among the most challenging in the Bulgarian choral repertoire.

The Glas Vocal Ensemble sings Bulgarian a capella music – old folk songs that have been re-composed and modernized by many excellent Bulgarian composers in recent years. The music is a unique mixture of old and new, which has been influenced by both eastern and western traditions. The traditional Bulgarian sound is sharp and similar to the sound of a
bagpipe. Like the bagpipe, it often holds an underlying tone that forms the basis for all other sounds – a drone, from where more ornamental melodies spring. There are both shrieks and shouts and sometimes Arabic scales or dissonating jazz chords.

Glas is able to perform the song perfectly with incredible vocal technique, articulation, ornamentation, rhythm and dynamics. It´s hard to believe that “GLAS” is not a Bulgarian singing group. They sound absolutely professional in all aspects.

The songs describe life in Bulgaria – poetic descriptions of love, war and daily life as it was - in the village square, on the farm and in the fields. Amusing, heartbreaking and human tales that are translated by Glas during their performances.

Glas continues to surprise, thrill and touch their audience.
