"How Long 'Til Never? - Review"

“How Long ’til Never?” — the latest EP from the Golden Ratio — makes a nice impression. Imagine Garbage and Mazzy Star trapped in a planetarium." - Kevin Bronson - Buzzbands.la / LA Times

"Silverlake Lounge - October 22 2008"

"When The Golden Ratio took the stage they built up a wall of swirling psychedelia backed by a funky beat that was pierced by the slowly mounting wail of Talia's fine voice. It sounded like a weird mix of Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, with some Prince thrown in. Or in the same vein as contemporary artists like Film School, Darker My Love, or Xu Xu Fang." - Brad - feedyourheadtoday.blogspot.com

"Silverlake Lounge - August 27 2008"

"Sultry songstress Talia Mays heads this psychedelic/electro band from the same ilk as Portishead." - LA Metromix

"Best Indie Bands 2007"

"a mix of dense guitars, psychedelic textures and a sound that invites as well as challenges the listener." - David Carr, Associated Content

"Avante Guard Groove Rock"

"A wall of sound is indeed what you will find on Golden Ratio’s disc Cesium Parlor. The disc is a true mix of very unique sounds. Songs such as 50 Virgins Sink the Ship and Illusions offer the listener a mix of psychedelic guitars, big rhythms and hip-hop underpinnings" - Xomba

"Cesium Parlor"

"Cesium Parlor (2005). "In this debut they discovered the centuries old balance that generates aesthetically pleasing results, balancing the opposing characteristics of rock, electronic sounds and the world of Tim Burton." - Simon Rust - Lions Gate Ent.

"The Gold Standard"

The Unique sounds of Golden Ratio

When asked to describe the sound of his band Golden Ratio, Jereami Mennella replies, “It’s a big dark sound that has a groove to it…we are trying to create a wall of sound.” A wall of sound is indeed what you will find on Golden Ratio’s disc Cesium Parlor. The disc is a true mix of very unique sounds. Songs such as 50 Virgins Sink the Ship and Illusions offer the listener a mix of psychedelic guitars, big rhythms and hip-hop underpinnings. The local group has been together since 2001 and the members actually met while doing some studio work for the godfather of trip-hop Tricky. The band was able to finance the making of their debut disc by playing shows and as vocalist Talia Mayes adds, by babysitting!! “I ended up babysitting this producer’s kid in order to help finance the making of the disc!” The disc can be found on the bands website, Amoeba Records, and they are in the process of making it available at out own Fingerprints.

The band enjoys playing out live but thus far it has been tough for the group to find its niche in the local scene. Jerami explains, “Not too many venues cater to our kind of sound here in Long Beach. It’s even harder to find places to play in Hollywood. Our sound makes it hard for folks to book us so we end up playing shows with a lot of glam rock bands.” Even with the un-even bookings, the band is dedicated to their sound. “We make this type of music because we like it and because we are not about following trends”, Jerami states. The group is currently in the studio now working on a series of EPs set to be released in November. “We are bringing in different musicians to help us with these next releases…it seems like other musicians are our biggest fans,” exclaims Jerami. “The EPs all will have themes running through them and then we will release another full length disc.” Manella says that in the future the band will be trying to find its niche in the local scene and they will be shopping around their EPs and their full length disc to record companies. If you are looking for a local band with a unique, diverse sound, put your faith in The Golden Ratio.

"Creation from the Heart of Music"

It's an evening at the Passage of the Musician's Institute in Hollywood, CA and the beginning of learning the deep and meaningful concept of The Golden Ratio.

Unique and original in sound and style, The Golden Ratio play from the heart and move one's soul into feeling the sensations of what matters most. They bring eclectic rock into its finest form, the way Michaelangelo creates Venus de Milo and David; The Golden Ratio put an element of history into original creation. Guitarist Mike Hayungs brings a fresh style with classical appeal with hints of influence from Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, and Jeff Beck. He describes, "I build off what they were trying to do, break ground and be original as possible." Mike affirms the value of learning from history as it creates a strong foundation from which to grow.

With a beautiful soothing voice, vocalist Talia Mayes makes The Golden Ratio shine in their own unique brilliance with passion and lyrical depth that reflects in her style, performance and dance. On what matters most Talia declares, "The world, brining the world to awareness and being present in the moment." She adds, "When you experience something in life, see it for what it is and not to allow an illusion to lead you. Let your heart lead you - nothing else matters."

"The Lines are Drawn...and Warped"

The Golden Ratio releases the Lines of Civilization EP. Its been 2 years since we have heard from this young band out of the Silverlake-Echo Park area of Los Angeles. The three new tracks are an evolution from the sounds on Cesium Parlor (released 2005). Songs, Segway The Mephisto and Speed are luscioulsy layered tracks that create edgy psychedelic moods with flavors of post trip hop and hints of nugaze . Encore is a punky electro pop with a catchy hook and dark lyrics..."Rock stars always die in the end" repeats in a playful manner over ruff keyboards and dance style drums. Vocalist Talia Mays is enchanting as ever and the bands sonic sensibilities have definitely expanded. The only downside of the Lines of Civilization Ep is that we want to hear more.

Bio

Vocalist Talia Mays and bassist Jerami Mennella met while collaborating with Tricky during the production of "Vulnerable". The two were later joined by fuzz taming guitarist Mike Hayungs and drummer Tayor Kennedy to form Golden Ratio in 2004. Their sound is an evolving one. Rooted in deep grooves, coated in fuzzy psychedlics and topped by Talia's enthralling vocals. Songs are filled with dimension and designed to gain momentum when performed live. Comparisons to other bands have been as varied as their listeners. Garbage, Portishead, Mazzy Star, Jimi Hendix, and Massive Attack are just a few Golden Ratio have been likened to.

Currently, Golden Ratio is playing in some of the most influential independent music venues in Los Angeles and are preparing for a West Coast tour in support of their latest EP, "How Long 'Til Never?".. They have been featured on Indie 103.1 and The Buzzsicle (vol 1).
