Today, thousands of Brewers fans gathered at the Summerfest grounds for the Brewers Playoff Rally, a special event to help give our National League Central Division Champions a proper send-off into the Postseason.
The Brewers Playoff Rally began at 4:00 p.m. at the Miller Lite Oasis with an appearance by The Good Rebels (formerly Pan Am), a band out of Los Angeles led by Dan Attanasio, son of Brewers Owner Mark Attanasio. The band succeeded in getting the fans appropriately pumped up with lively original tunes, a few cover songs and some “Let’s Go Brewers, Let’s Go!” chants. And, as if he didn’t already have enough to celebrate, it also happened to be Mark Attanasio”s birthday today, so the band also led the crowd in a rousing sing along of “Happy Birthday” to him. - Milwaukee Brewers
The Good Rebels are a band that is all about songwriting. Inspired by the melodic sensibility of the 60s, The Good Rebels continue a small tradition of bands that write songs you can sing along to, not just rock out to. Consisting of brothers Steven and Gary Lundy and Dan Attanasio, the band has already performed at many of Los Angeles’ most prestigious clubs, including The Troubadour, The Roxy, and The Echo, where they recently supported The Postelles. The Good Rebels recently released their debut EP, "Ladies and Gentlemen...Meet the Good Rebels (A Band Formerly Called Pan Am)," which is available now through iTunes. I arrived a little late at the Echo on Tuesday night, actually the show had started earlier then usual, and I missed the beginning of Pan Am’s set, but the quartet had already drawn the attention of many with their uplifting tunes which had a sort of nostalgia for the 60s. And I am not necessarily saying this because the guitars in ‘He called himself Dan’ echoed some of the catchiness of a certain McCartney song (‘Rocky Racoon?), but there was a real and pleasant retro side in their music.
Seeing the scarce information found online, Pan Am has to be a very young band, consisting of two brothers, Steven Lundy on vocals and guitar, and Gary Lundy on lead guitar, as well as Dan Attanasio on bass, and someone else on drums. If there was no surprise to read on their facebook page that their influences are The Beatles, Oasis, and The Kinks, rehashing the 60s is never easy at the risk of sounding ridiculous and outdated.
But there was none of this on Tuesday night, and if the doo-wop sound of the 60s was quite present during ‘My my my’, or the bright chorus of ‘Save me’ was following some the same path than Portugal. The Man, another heavily Beatles-influenced band, during the explosive ‘Domino’ I immediately thought about a younger band, Saint Motel.

Pan Am (www.myspace.com/panamband): The Troubadour has held significance to a number of incredible acts over the years, from Elton John, The Eagles and the Buffalo Springfield to Guns N’ Roses, Pearl Jam and Radiohead. On May 27, a band with many of the same sensibilities as these performers hit the stage of the legendary club: Pan Am, a band that pays tribute to their heroes of yesteryear while maintaining a modern rock sound all their own. Despite not being the headliner, Pan Am was able to draw the largest crowd of the night as they commanded the stage. The band looked like they were having a blast as they led the audience through a 45-minute set of original songs, including standouts “Save Me” and “He Called Himself Dan,” which takes a new perspective on Paul McCartney’s Beatles classic “Rocky Raccoon.” They capped the night with a blistering rendition of a song that singer/guitarist Steven Lundy introduced to the crowd as one that they “unfortunately did not write”—David Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel.” Catch Pan Am opening for The Postelles at the Echo on June 28 and see the latest band to have the Troubadour buzzing. The Good Rebels (formerly Pan Am) are a band that is all about songwriting. Inspired by the melodic sensibility of the 60s, The Good Rebels continue a small tradition of bands that write songs you can sing along to, not just rock out to. Above all else, The Good Rebels aim to be catchy, and their songs are best described as that. Although their songs are reminiscent of the 60s, The Good Rebels sound unmistakably modern. Vintage yet fresh, traditional yet new, The Good Rebels’ sound is entirely their own.
Consisting of brothers Steven and Gary Lundy, Dan Attanasio, and Kelly King, The Good Rebels have already performed at many of Los Angeles’ most prestigious clubs, including The Troubadour, The Roxy, and The Echo, where they supported The Postelles. Their live shows never fail to exhibit what makes the band special: a knack for melodic, well-crafted songs coupled with energetic stage presence. The Good Rebels have also gained a following in Milwaukee, where they have played the Milwaukee Summerfest many times. Fresh on the heels of their debut EP, Ladies and Gentlemen…Meet The Good Rebels, the band recently opened for Five For Fighting at the Milwaukee Brewers’ Playoff Rally. 2012 looks to be the band’s most ambitious year yet, with the targeted release of their debut album, a concept album titled 2012, which will be released gradually with a new track every month, so that at the end of the year fans will have a 12-track album that will serve as a snapshot of every month of the year 2012.
