"Concert Meets Praise of Arts Council"

The Great Imponderables were awesome! Those in attendance couldn't stop
complimenting the music, the voices, the laser show and the break dancing.
It was different from any concert we've had here during the seven years
since Swain County Center for the Arts opened. I personally loved
everything about the show. I also noticed there were some students here,
which was really something considering there was a conference basketball
game going on at the same time.

You guys were great to work with and professionals all the way. I really
appreciate you coming in plenty of time to set-up and check everything
without being rushed. Thank you again for doing such a fun and exciting
show for us.

Please feel free to include my email address on your
website for reference. Jenny Johnson

"Local Band Helps Katrina Victims"

One local band volunteered its time and talent at the "Covered Bridge Festival," an event aimed at raising money for needy families.
This year, the festival, an event held annually on the fourth Saturday in September in Euharlee, Ga., fell on the heels of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
"We're not a large group, but we try to do what we can to help people," said John Montgomery, the festival organizer. "This year, it seems the folks in Louisiana and Texas could use our help"
When The Great Imponderables, a Cashiers area band, were invited to headline the festival, they immediately accepted.
"To be asked to be the headliner for the street dance was a real privilege for us," the band said.
The band comprises of Rick Creel, facilitator of the Sapphire planetarium; Creel's son, Nathan; Mike Zinski, owner of a cleaning business in Franklin; and Payton Laughlin, a construction worker from Franklin.
"It was the most fun we've ever had," the band said.
And, most importantly, Montgomery said, "the event was a success."
The Great Imponderables will perform at the Sapphire Valley Ski Slopes on Oct. 19. For more information on this event, call the Sapphire Valley community Center at (828) 743-7663. For more information about the band, visit http://www.thegreatimponderables.com.

"Fall on the Slopes Keeps Crowds Dancing"

On Wednesday, Oct. 19, Sapphire Valley hosted a return of The Great Imponderables on its ski slopes. The local band plays a wide variety of music that kept everyone dancing all evening long. The band performed tunes from Otis Redding, Elvis, Rod Stewart and many others. Organizers said the clear skies and moderate temperatures, as well as the bonfire, made for a pleasant evening of music and fun. The band was great, and we'll have them back again," said Joyce Bumgarner, the facilities manager. Arrangements are being made to have the band return to perform an indoor event at the Sapphire facility during the ski season. For more information, call the Sapphire Valley Community Center at 743-7663. - Crossroads Chronicle

Bio

The band has performed for crowds of up to 4,000. Performances include the NC Arts council, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Coca-Cola. They also support the Make-A-Wish Foundation by arranging musical guests to help raise money in local communities. Lead guitarist was trained by professionals from musicians workshop who claimed he would become a "monster" (which he has). Using styles from legends like Joe Satriani and Eric Johnson, Nathan has been able to come up with a style uniquely his own. Mike and Payton have a background in dance, even appearing in movies with Will Smith, Mat Damon and others. Mike's musical ability allows him to create and play most any instrument he touches. Rick's mother was a music teacher. He grew up performing and listening to many different genre's of music. He joined a band in the 70's as a bassist himself and now plays drums for the band. The mix of the old guy's and the new allow this band to play something that appeals to audiences of ALL ages.
