Bio

hi there ...we're the great statesmen..hmm what to say???

the constant refrain we get from people, young and old, is that we don't sound like anyone else out there. Could be a good thing, although we do hope we're getting near something that sounds like music!! We try - very hard - we'll have you know - to write music like our musical heroes, all those great acts out there...Muse, We Are Scientists, Simon and Garfunkel, James Brown, Foo Fighters, Graham Coxon to name but a few... yeah sure we might be getting closer to some than others...who are we to say!!?

We talk about things that affect everyone everyday. Things from the big political issues down to worrying about whether you're boss likes you or not.....probably not as they're a grumpy lot them bosses. But who cares..everything is politics (as the advert says) from being polite to the guy at the corner shop so he might sell you a couple of beers out of hours, to having a shave when you go to see your parents. It all counts!!

A little bit of history for you now. The Great Statesmen, contrary to popular myth, started as a Muse tribute act - with a bit of a morris dancing twist to it - you had to see it to believe it!! However, something went awry somewhere along the line as we ended up playing the tunes you hear from us now - we're not sure Steve was telling us all the truth when he said he knew the tunes off the top of his head.. This didn't go down too well at The Dog and Duck when we played at their 'Muse-ik Night'. Anyway, it's probably all turned out for the best...Kris can't even play a guitar so what he was doing trying to be Matt Belamy we never could quite work out!!?? He doesn't look much like him either.

'Why the name?' we hear you ask. Well, we kinda figured that the world is lacking in great statesmen these days (it's not like the old days). So we thought we'd put ourselves up for the job. Bush and Blair seem to be mucking things up, so why not give it a go. So far we haven't received any responses from the world's leaders to our kind offer to help out with their ongoing problems, but we remain hopeful. In the meantime The Great Statesmen will be offering a freelance mediating service between warring parties. We will sort it out ...through the power of music!!

And somewhere in there is our message to you. Be nice to people, give up your seat for old ladies, listen to our music and come to our gigs. The world will be a nicer place for all of us.
