Goa, India January 25, 2008 W.O.A International proudly announces the launch of the first volume in the Goa Chillout Zone CD collection. Comprising of 26 world artists from both the companys record label W.O.A Records as well as unsigned acts, its an eclectic double CD bringing together some of the very best artists in independent music today. Best of all, its part of an extremely worthwhile cause at the same time.

With this release, were not only bringing original and exciting music to the public, says Wanda Alvares, Executive Vice President / Head of Marketing, were also giving back to a cause we believe passionately in. For every CD sold, we will give 10% of the sale to a charity that supports animal welfare, especially animal rights groups that work against the fur trade.

With the fur trade responsible for the torture and murder of over 50 million animals worldwide every year, purely for the benefit of fashion lovers, its a business thats continuously in the news. W.O.A International recognizes that its something that wont be changed overnight, but passionately believe that continued support in the fight against it will eventually win through.

The Goa Chillout Zone CD Vol. 1 is the first release in a planned five-volume collection. Bringing together the best that W.O.A International has to offer as well as unsigned independent artists worldwide, it includes the likes of Oliver Sean, Tiger Tiger and Cuca Moreno from W.O.A Records, as well as unsigned acts like Amy Duncan, Juliet Annerino and The Green.

Such has the pre-release interest been in the first volume that W.O.A International is already planning the second one, due for release in October 2008. Artists interested in appearing on Vol.2 are encouraged to submit their songs for submission onto the collection. With 10,000 copies being pressed and distributed to Yahoo Music and iTunes as well as retailers and radio stations worldwide, and top clubs at holiday destinations like Ibiza, Goa, etc, its an excellent opportunity for unsigned artists to be heard by large audiences. Each artist selected for the CD will receive royalties and licensing fees, as well as copies for promotion.

With the Goa Chillout Zone CD Vol.1 set to be a huge success for both artists and the chosen charity, and Vol.2 already in the planning stage, 2008 looks set to be a milestone year for W.O.A International. Buy the CD today and find out what all the noise is about.

The Green bucks norm for S.A. music genres
- W.O.A. International

"LOOK & LISTEN: The Green bucks norm for S.A. music genres"

THEY ARE: The Green

MEMBERS: Carlos Santiago (guitar, synthesizers, vocals, production); Anne Noel (vocals, keyboards); Chris Pantuso (percussion)

THE SOUND: Trip-hop/downtempo electronica featuring Noel's haunting vocals and what Santiago calls “future sexy beats.”

THE WEB: listentothegreen.com; myspace.com/thegreentriphop

ALBUMS: Emancipation (2006)

THE BACKGROUND: Carlos Santiago, a member of the acoustic rock group Saving Dawn, originally conceived of The Green as a purely instrumental project. Then he decided he wanted a female vocalist but didn't think he could find one in San Antonio. He was making plans to move to Los Angeles when he heard Anne Noel singing at a club in 2006. “She was exactly what I was looking for. I decided to stay here and work with her,” he said. “When she's singing, the crowd gets captivated.” Pantuso was another member of Saving Dawn who also attended Clark High School and Texas A&M with Santiago.

THEIR WORDS: “No one sings like me. I'm not saying I have the best voice, but I've never heard anyone who sounds like me.” — Anne Noel

WHERE TO SEE THEM: The White Rabbit on Dec. 29. The Green often incorporates fusion bellydancing and video in live shows.

THE 210 TAKE: In a city where heavy metal, Tejano and country rule, the Green is trying to build up the electronica scene, and that's to be commended. “The state of electronica in San Antonio is like a little baby who has just been born. As far as European downtempo, we're it. Some people have never heard this kind of music,” Santiago said. But “people are becoming more comfortable with our sound. I think we have a chance to really start something.” Check out the single “Never Change” on the Goa Chillout Zone Vol. 1 compilation, to be released by the W.O.A. International label on Jan. 5.

"Local, Austin rock bands play Venue for Meals on Wheels"

By: Bart Taylor

As the holiday approaches and our minds drift toward thoughts of food, many of us can't help but think of those who won't be enjoying a richly seasoned turkey around a table with their loved ones. It is with these thoughts that KSYM 90.1 hosted their 9th annual Alternative to Hunger canned food drive concert.

This year, instead of having the concert at their usual spot of Sam's Burger Joint , KSYM opted to hold the event at The Venue, a converted warehouse near San Antonio College. A donation of five cans was required for general admission, a turkey counted for the admission of five people and a donation of $15 earned attendees the VIP treatment€"free food and a chance to chat with the bands.

Also, KSYM held a raffle for a new Fender Squire electric guitar as the grand prize. All proceeds went to support Meals on Wheels, a service to deliver food to low income elderly individuals all over San Antonio.

"It's a good time. There's good food and you get to chat with some of San Antonio's best D.J.s, maybe chat with some local and Austin based bands. Plus, it all goes to a good cause. What could be better?" Program Director Randon Martinez said.

In the lineup there were five bands playing for charity. The Green and The Lowtides were the local bands, and Red Leaves, J-Price and Muchos Backflips came from Austin.

First to take the stage was The Green. A rather new arrival to the San Antonio live scene, The Green's genre is what some might refer to as lounge trip-hop. The group was comprised of a guitarist, turntable operator, a percussionist and lead vocals with keyboard.

A mix between electronica and jazz, with some reggae-inspired beats and smooth female vocals, they set a calm, laid-back opening atmosphere to the night's festivities.

"We have a very funked-out dub lounge sound with a female vocal ambience," guitarist Carlos Santiago said. The Green will have upcoming shows around San Antonio in local live music clubs.

Another local group, The Lowtides, took the stage with a series of surf rock inspired songs. With one guitarist, a bassist and a drummer, The Lowtides got the crowd on their feet and dancing. Citing 1960s surf rock as their main inspiration, they played some old hits, more obscure surf songs and many original works.

"We're not a band that plays for the money. We all have houses to sleep in and meals on the table; it's good to be able to use our music to give some of that to people who don't have food or a place to stay," bassist Mark B. said.

Also taking the stage was a three-member Austin band: The Red Leaves. With a very alternative rock feeling inspired by Jimmy Hendrix and Radiohead, the band played a host of rather emotional original songs. At the height of their performance, the lead guitarist, David Lujan, jumped and danced on and off the stage while playing.

Other Austin favorites at Alternative to Hunger were J-Price, a four-man Indie Rock band and Muchos Backflips with some more hardcore rock stylings.

All told, the 9th Annual Alternative to Hunger was a success and the music refused to stop till 2 a.m. Sunday.

"Emancipation CD Review!"

Brimming with acid jazz, trip hop, and ambient flavors, the Green give a good name to the increasingly generic electronic-music scene. Those burned out on the mindless, repetitive thump-thump-thump of techno and the lazy drone of downtempo will be rejoicing from the sonic liberation that the Green frolic within.

What helps the Green stand out amongst their synthesized brethren is their courage, their willingness to think beyond what is expected from this genre. The Green -- who are actually a threesome and not just a DJ's pseudonym -- are an imaginative lot. They venture into various sonic territories from the jazzy textures of "Positive G" to the sizzling soundtrack dynamics of "The Heist," which filmmaker Quentin Tarantino would've enjoyed.

Anne Noel has a sensual, ethereal voice that works well with this consciousness-expanding vibe; you wish you could hear her more often. On future recordings, the Green should consider utilizing Noel's vocals throughout a record instead of the bits and pieces that we hear on this CD. On "The Kyoto Treaty," Noel's appearance really shines.

"the Green: Praised in the U.K."

The Green (http://www.listentothegreen.com) is different from many electronica acts in that it is actually a collective and not just a single DJ spinning grooves. Featuring Carlos Santiago (DJ/producer/guitars/dub vocals), Anne Noel (vocals/keyboards/dubs), and Chris Pantuso (Latin percussion/dubs), the Green invigorates the genre with a senses-shattering explosion of sound.

Reading about the Green is nowhere as thrilling as listening to them, especially on headphones when their otherworldly beats take on a druggy hypnotic effect. On "The Kyoto Treaty," disembodied female vocals float outside the mix, surfing on dreamy, pulsating synthesizers. Want to tune out of this world? "The Kyoto Treaty" will do the trick better than any narcotics.

The Green specialize in slow, downtempo tracks that are laced with acid jazz and Latin influences. "El Guapo" is made to be boomed from a seedy club in the midnight hour; it's trippy percussion is electrifying, destroying the perception that this music is soulless.

You have to love electronic artists that experiment and bend the rules. On "Calling All Dancehalls," wah-wah riffs charge through the high-tech daze, and "The Heist" recalls the glory days of '70s funk. You can almost imagine Superfly walking around and looking badass.

Limelight — The Green and Aether 216 make music that doesn't necessarily qualify as something completely different, but they also don't make garden-variety anything. What they do is create down-tempo, deep-groove sounds that might well expand a mind here and there.
