The best kept secret in music

Badische Neueste Nachrichten
Achern-Fautenbach. There was another virtuoso storm of sound down at the “Wagen” in Fautenbach with a foot-stomping performance by the Gregg Miller Group from Boston, playing at the invitation of the Kulturverein Abraxas. This was Blues at its finest – and the audience loved it!
The tour by the 3-man band had been arranged at short notice. Just a few months ago, Egbert Ramin, a small publisher based in Singen, was in the USA; he came into contact with the Gregg Miller Group for the first time when he heard them playing at a well-known club in New Orleans. “They just blew me away!” Ramin told us at the Wagen. He booked the group for an Open Air Festival (“Der Hegau bebt”) and arranged another six appearances in Germany and Switzerland as part of a mini tour.
Playing at the Wagen, the “Millers” let rip with a straight-forward, rock-hard R&B sound that had the audience literally pressed into their seats. Gregg Miller, who guards his 40 year-old hand-crafted guitar like a precious treasure (he never goes anywhere without it) played like a genius as he coaxed a riot of exciting sounds out of the strings. Some of the highlights of the concerts included a couple of hell-fire Jimi-Hendrix adaptations, including a fabulous “Voodoo Child” – unforgettable! But Miller’s many own compositions – which all feature on the last CD entitled “Welcome to Mother Earth” – also bear the uncompromising and highly original Miller stamp.

Feeling a bit camera shy

Whether fictional, biographical, or autobiographical, The Gregg Miller Group (GMG) takes you through the story of triumph through the beast that is the blues. Greggs music is all original and diverse within itself, but Miller overtly makes no attempt to conceal his major influences, intertwining many different blues legends while adding his own unique style to the mix. Everyone from Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble, The Allman Brothers Band, BB, Albert, & Freddie King, and Ronnie Earl are mixed together to create a melting pot of musical sounds and emotions. The energy, emotion, and soul released by Miller and his group during live shows can be heard almost every day of every week if you can check this group out playing around the Boston scene. Touring and playing in front of excited audiences has been a steady determination for this band! The Gregg Miller Group is able to provide a significant level of freshness and newness to the modern blues/rock scene of today. Opening for, or playing with, such Boston area bands as harmonica legend James Montgomery, Weepin' Willie, Draw the Line, Basic Black, and Ricky "King" Russell; or playing on the same concert stage as one of Greggs major influences, Buddy Miles, Gregg has recieved much respect for his guitar playing. Putting his trio together 5 years ago, writing and singing his own compositions, has brought him through the USA, Canada, and Europe for tours and festivals.
