The Gringo Kings

The Gringo Kings

Joyriding jazzers drive too fast and recklessly and end up lost in a Latin neighborhood. They never return.

I'm a gringo and I love latin music. So I created, with some fantastic Boston jazz musicians, a five-horn latin band that that specializes in putting out a heavy latin groove with with underlying jazz overtones.

With the exception of a few covers, all of our music is original.

We've been influenced by the work of Tito Puente, Machito, Cubanismo and Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk, Stan Getz, Duke Ellington, Charles Lloyd and many others.

We have recorded a demo, but not our first CD yet. Our collective discography would be quite lengthly. Recordings and concerts with: Tony Bennett, Chaka Kahn, Natalie Cole, Joe Williams, Wynton Marsalis, Arturo Sandoval, Buddy DeFranco and many, many others.

Set List

80% originals, 20% covers. Given the choice I'd do one long set of 10 to 15 songs.

Our covers right now are from Tito Puente, Gordon Goodwin, and Chicago.
