Bio
The core of the group consists of bassist Dylan de Freitas, drummer Jay Earley, guitarist Mike Smeaton with Jacob Hammonds on keys. The group met while in high school and, all similarly minded, quickly found themselves jamming and turning each other on to new music. For the next two years the band would struggle to keep it going as life pulled them in separate directions. However, they were always writing new material, even putting out a self titled EP and EPK. They would play with each other anytime they could and continued to make slow progress. Determined to stake their claim to a spot in the Denton music scene, the Groovebumps started to focus on their live performances, keeping their music fresh and honest.
Also a very important component to the Groovebumps music is Colaboration. In working with other artists from Folk to Hip-Hop to Electronic music, the Groovebumps have honed their own sound that can be shaped to many styles. "It's all Music", says Guitarist Mike Smeaton. "If you can speak the language, there's no reason it can't be spoken on new, experimental instruments or in new ways." Live Samples, and extended funky jams, remeniniscent of a J-Dilla instrumental track, makes for a textured music very rearely heard in a live setting.
Encouraged by the success of other independent bands that have come before them; inspired by the artists they grew up listening to, and always invigorated after playing a live show, the Groovebumps just hope that they can continually bring their music to new ears.
