"To Err is Human; To Groove is Divine"

The Groovesmiths are all about getting back to their roots. Or more importantly our roots. Roots is a catchpharase which seems to cover an enormous genre of music, but usually it denotes music that favours an idiom of acoustic rhythms, deep seated bass, a commitment to the good of the planet, a couple of dreadlocks and a lot of movement on the tootsies. Gavin Shoesmith is one of the pharoahs of root's John Butler's original bassists. The Groovesmiths offer up a smorgasboard of musical treats. Shoesmith likes to push his instrument past the boundaries of rhythm and into the famed Mingus territory- elevating bass to the role of melodic lead instrument- finally the bass player is free, no more hiding b ehing the lead, the bass has cut completely loose! - The Echo

Bio

Gavin Shoesmith, originally a Freo boy in his last life as Bass player for a well known band (of which it could be said, "helped kick-start the roots movement in Australia") founded the Groovesmiths in Darwin.
Now based in Perth, Shoesmith is joined by renowned young local musicians Alex Dew on guitars and Andrew Pearson on drums.

A band that truly defies genre, The Groovesmith's reputation as an incredible live band was confirmed by their performances at the Blues at Bridgetown Festival and the Broome Arts and Music Festival in 2007. With their debut release "Demonstrations of Intent" (Available in all good record stores nationally through MGM) selling well on the strength of such songs as "Bushranger" as they toured in and outside of Western Australia in 2007, the band went into the studio in early 2008 to lay down the tracks for a long awaited album. Released in July, "The Groovesmiths" captures the raw live element of the band at their best.
