Bio

The Grownups hit the Australian indie charts in the late 1980s with two popular singles (Snakebite and Into The Beyond) and a 4-track EP (featuring She Sets Me On Fire). Despite growing critical acclaim and popularity, the band parted company before recording their debut album. Two years ago, The Grownups reformed to complete that unfinished business.

And complete it, they have. The Light-Filled Corner features a sprinkling of 20-year-old Grownups songs (completely contemporised) alongside a raft of brand new tracks. The result is a sweeping, eclectic mix of alt pop-rock portraits of characters and concepts.

During two years of production, the band merged a DIY mindset with the sharp-edged skills of musicians, engineers and producers from three continents. Amongst these are some of music’s biggest names, including mix engineers Chris Brown (Radiohead, Pink Floyd, The Beatles Anthology, etc) and Marco Migliari (Robert Plant, Crowded House, and others).

Bringing together a vast heritage of influences from Bruce Springsteen to Radiohead, from Billy Bragg to Jamie T, from The Clash to Bright Eyes, and from Elvis Costello to The Airborne Toxic Event, The Grownups have emerge as entirely themselves – mature, intelligent and passionate.

And, as an interesting side note, The Grownups' lead singer, Michael Wagner, is the father of Wil Wagner, the power-packed lead singer with The Smith Street Band - which means father and son have released debut albums in the very same year.
