Bio

A 1970's rock band in spirit, a piano trio in physical make-up (and hopeless romantics at heart), The Güapos Locos play jazz music that is not taking itself all too seriously. Feeding on the diverse musical backgrounds of its members, their music explores an eclectic repertoire of popular musics from around the world – ranging from pulsating Led Zeppelin tunes to Mexican love songs. It combines catchy melodies with unexpected harmonic twists and rhythmic turns, high-powered outbursts with contemplative ballads and ability with fun. The Güapos Locos play music from the heart – through the mind – for your feet.

The group was founded in Paris during the first half of the current decade by the Mexican pianist Gustavo Mezo, the Australian double-bassist Michael Mear and the German drummer David Tappeser. After several years of studying together, performing together in variety of different contexts and combinations and after copious amounts of beer, they decided to formalize their improvised experiments at the sideline of different jams and rehearsals into a more serious musical project, which would reflect their shared desire to play jazz with a playful edge.
