Bio

With heavenly voices and driving strings, enigmatic 4-piece The Hanging Ropes seduce all in their dusty path with a hair-raising blend of Bluegrass, Country, Gospel, English and traditional Hispanic Folk.

Sultry harmonies intertwine with banjos, acoustic guitars and harmonicas to craft impassioned tales of love, loss, death and penance in flamboyant style.

The Hanging Ropes flamboyant performances have secured them an enviable reputation as one of the most exciting live acts around.

The Hanging Ropes are fronted by the angelic vocals of the Ropettes - Laura & Charlie Rope - exuding a devilish chemistry and style that has been known to floor grown men. Under-pinned by Frank Knot’s bewitching banjo/harmonica and Luke John Wills’ illustrious acoustic guitar - it’s a mouth-watering combination.

On a crisp Winter night, these four kindred souls met by chance on a boat party in Battersea - and soon found themselves jamming until the sun rose over the Thames. Within days they were working together, feverishly combining influences as diverse as Kate Bush, Joan Baez, Nina Simone, the Seeger Family, Bill Evans & Megan Lynch and Minor Threat. Today they have birthed a sound all of their own – like a soundtrack to the best Tarantino film he never made.

12th February 2009 saw the launch of The Hanging Ropes’ delectable new EP at their acclaimed acoustic residency The Velvet Rope Revue @Paradise (by way of Kensal Green). Showcasing a hand-picked selection of the finest Folk, Country, Jazz, Blues and Performance (including puppet shows!).
