"Spotlight on Texas Artists: the Happy Alright, the Results and the Toadies"

Ah, the joys of being young and full of pop-punk goodness. That would be Dallas trio the Happy Alright. Who is the Happy Alright, you ask? Its members are 14-year-old drummer Bradley Barteau, a freshman at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts; 17-year-old bassist Quinn Breitfeller, a senior at Greenhill School; and 17-year-old guitarist and lead singer Sterling Gavinski, a senior at Lakehill Preparatory School.
These three guys are having a kicking time. On the group’s self-titled EP, a six-song project recorded at Dallas’ Zounds Sounds Studio, the catchy energy of pop-punk comes full force on tracks such as “There’s Nothing Left,” “Just Fine” and “Ferriswheel.” You can certainly hear the Happy Alright dudes wearing their influences on their sleeves, bands such as Green Day, Weezer, Blink-182 and All Time Low. They have a good command of the style, dishing up two- and three-minute corkers that get the feet stomping and the heads bobbing.
The Happy Alright came together in the summer of 2011 when Gavinski had an epiphany — he locked himself in his bedroom to write a bunch of songs, then contacted Breitfeller and Barteau to get a band going. Since then they’ve played the Door, Club Dada, Six Flags, the Prophet Bar, La Grange and other local venues. THA also snagged first place in the Door’s Fall 2011 Battle of the Bands competition. Catch the trio in concert Oct. 13 at 3:30 p.m. at Poor David’s Pub, 1313 S. Lamar St., Dallas. Admission is $11. For more information, go to poordavidspub.com.
