The Harlands

Michael Jackson meets Taylor Swift, with an acoustic twist.

Biography

The Harlands first burst upon the Scottish music scene as a four piece rock band. With an average age of 16, they were a young band, proving that their hard work and passion for music could lead to success. The band set out to entice the record-buying public with their high-spirited guitar riffs and straight talking lyrics. Having dominated the Caithness Music scene with the release of their two track single “Fear of Flying” the band was entered into a national battle of the bands called, “The Ultimate Chill” from which they finished runners-up. This competition allowed the band to perform their music all over Scotland. 2009 witnessed the peak of the bands career having won “Battle for Bella” which resulted in the band making their first festival appearance to a packed out Seedlings Tent at the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival. The bands performance was described as, “Nothing but excellent” by Radio Scotland DJ Tom Morton.

Shortly after the festival The Harlands were straight back in the studio writing new material where differences in musical taste and direction led to the departure of the bands’ drummer. This had a dramatic effect on the band and resulted in the band going on a break. In 2011 Catriona (Lead Vocals) and Craig (Guitar) began jamming and writing new ideas while performing small acoustic shows with Michael (ex bass player/ current rhythm guitarist). With the Harlands’ everlasting love and talent for song writing and performing they have created a style which they feel is their best yet. Through the bright, rich textures of acoustic guitar and powerful vocals soaring easily through the emotion of the lyrics the new Harlands EP “Passing Time” shows how the band have matured as individuals. “Passing Time” is all about exploring what it means to push through the tough times and emerge stronger for it. The thing The Harlands are looking forward to most about the release of the EP is getting the opportunity to hit the road and gig again.

Lyrics

Silence

Written By: The Harlands

The signs are beautiful as the world just passes us by,
The thought of staying here makes me want to cry.
The bloody tracks lead to my door,
Thought I told you I don’t wanna see you anymore.
Wait for me now, wait for me
Wait for me now, wait for me
Won’t you let me go, oh what would you know
Wait for me now, wait for me.
Let the sea run dry, before the blue runs from the sky,
So courteous yet so kind,
I’ve answered questions that’s enough,
Yet you have the answers right in front of you.
Wait for me now, wait for me
Wait for me now, wait for me
Won’t you let me go, oh what would you know
Wait for me now, wait for me.
Wait for me now, wait for me
Wait for me now, wait for me
Won’t you let me go, oh what would you know
Wait for me now, wait for me.

Passing Time

Written By: The Harlands

I just need some more time to explain what’s been on my mind,
I just need you to understand why,
Bleeding our fears together we’ll get there some way, we’ll get there somehow,
Just keep your eyes shut blind and I know we’ll be alright,
We’ll be alright...
The last time we’ll say our goodbyes, one last time I’ll kiss you goodnight
I will have to trust you this time.
We’ve got one chance at this; we’ve got one shot for life,
You will have to trust me this time.
Days will come and pass; you will come and go,
Well this could be the worst scenario.
We’ve got time to kill but it won’t last long,
We won’t have time to burn in the future but we’ll watch it burn tonight.
Watch it burn tonight....
The first time we’ll say our goodbyes, one last time I’ll kiss you goodnight
You will have to trust me this time.
We’ve got one chance at this; we’ve got one shot for life,
You will have to trust me this time.

Sugar and Spice

Written By: The Harlands

Baby, Baby, Baby you’re in love,
Check your reflection, oh Baby don’t.
Darling, darling, darling oh please,
Just look at me, just look at me.
You put two words to the side, tell me look at other guys and I can see it in your eye,
Well it’s not because of sweet, sugar and spice.
Baby, Baby, Baby stop playing with me,
Cause in my dreams, you’re not who I see.
Honey, Honey, Honey word gets around,
So keep your feet firmly on the ground.
You put two words to the side, tell me look at other guys and I can see it in your eye,
Well it’s not because of sweet, sugar and spice.
I’ll keep these thoughts to myself you know,
It’s better for my health you know
When I reinforce to him, well I reinforce myself
Well I’ll give, you, give you a clue you know
It’s just not hard to do you know,
But say you’re in love with him.
That person is, that person is, that person is, that person is
You!
