The Harlands first burst upon the Scottish music scene as a four piece rock band. With an average age of 16, they were a young band, proving that their hard work and passion for music could lead to success. The band set out to entice the record-buying public with their high-spirited guitar riffs and straight talking lyrics. Having dominated the Caithness Music scene with the release of their two track single “Fear of Flying” the band was entered into a national battle of the bands called, “The Ultimate Chill” from which they finished runners-up. This competition allowed the band to perform their music all over Scotland. 2009 witnessed the peak of the bands career having won “Battle for Bella” which resulted in the band making their first festival appearance to a packed out Seedlings Tent at the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival. The bands performance was described as, “Nothing but excellent” by Radio Scotland DJ Tom Morton.

Shortly after the festival The Harlands were straight back in the studio writing new material where differences in musical taste and direction led to the departure of the bands’ drummer. This had a dramatic effect on the band and resulted in the band going on a break. In 2011 Catriona (Lead Vocals) and Craig (Guitar) began jamming and writing new ideas while performing small acoustic shows with Michael (ex bass player/ current rhythm guitarist). With the Harlands’ everlasting love and talent for song writing and performing they have created a style which they feel is their best yet. Through the bright, rich textures of acoustic guitar and powerful vocals soaring easily through the emotion of the lyrics the new Harlands EP “Passing Time” shows how the band have matured as individuals. “Passing Time” is all about exploring what it means to push through the tough times and emerge stronger for it. The thing The Harlands are looking forward to most about the release of the EP is getting the opportunity to hit the road and gig again.
