The Harry Garner Band

Harry grew up in SW Philadelphia during the 1960’s where he was exposed to the full spectrum of musical genres. His musical interests and inspirations run deep and began with the early rockin’ blues of Paul Butterfield, Johnny Winter and the ever rebellious rock band Steppenwolf. Motown and R&B played a huge part in everyday life in Philly with artist such as The Temptations, Ray Charles, and James Brown. After a tour in the US Marine Corps Harry drifted to Cleveland, Ohio. It was there, inside the rough and tumble honky tonks of of this downtrodden city, that country heroes such as Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and George Jones inspired Harry with their heartfelt ballads of bad luck and bruised pride. However, it was not until Harry settled in Chicago, some 25 years ago, that he discovered "The Blues" in earnist. Bluesmen such as McKinley Morganfield, Otis Spann and the great Little Walter captured Harry’s ear, heart and his passion drawing him ever deeper into the music. Musician’s including Rice Miller, Shaky Horton, James Cotton and Junior Wells all became a part of Harry’s musical education. Nevertheless, the impetus for Harry’s own musical expression came from an interest developed in the music of a man who seemed to combine many of the musical qualities which Harry admired from the past and present. To this day Harry is still inspired by, the music of his friend, the man they call "Memphis Charlie" Musselwhite.
