"The Heavy Eyes"

Release Date: October 7, 2010.

Record Label: Unsigned.

1967 was a vintage year for psychedelic blues rock, as power trios such as Cream and The Jimi Hendrix Experience changed the rock landscape forever.

43 years later, step forward The Heavy Eyes. A Memphis three-piece that are looking to replicate the golden age of rock.

From the gorgeous lick that shapes ‘In Need’ to the fabulous swirling groove of ‘Voytek’, this style of heavy rock possesses a modern and timeless quality.

Tripp Shumake’s vocals and guitar tone is crisp and bouncy, while the rhythm section, comprising of Wally Anderson (bass) and Eric Garcia (drums) is a natural partnership.

Each of the four tracks were recorded on a Tascam recorder in a non-soundproof room, with no metronome. The description of the recording process reads like an apologetic statement, adding that: “better recordings will be released in the near future.”

The beauty of the late 60’s is that the recording equipment available was basic (in comparison to modern day, of course) but the amount of classic recordings that short period produced has never been topped.

The roughness of the tracks adds a romantic charm, that is hard to find in an era of auto-tuning and digital remastering.

Bio

The Heavy Eyes is psychedelic bluesy rock from the delta that sounds similar to a skeleton driving a speed boat on a flaming Mississippi River headed back to 1969.

No story. We're simple-- we play roots influenced music.

The influences are Leaf Hound, Led Zeppelin, Cactus, Black Sabbath, Cream, Sir Lord Baltimore, Junior Kimbrough, R.L. Burnside, Buddy Guy, The Stooges, Jeff Beck, The Meters, The JB's, Fu Manchu, Queens Of The Stone Age... and 1,000 more.
