The Highlife officially started in May 2009, with their official debut (tour kickoff) at the Metro in Chicago in early Mid June, expecting to hit the road two days later. Two weeks into their east coast tour while they were heading south down Interstate 95, their van caught fire on a highway that was scaled down to one lane because of construction. Luckily everyone made it out with no injuries, but they were now van-less. After being stranded in Rocky Mt., North Carolina the band began a 17 hour trip home in a Penske box truck with their trailer attached and the remainder the tour cancelled. The day they made it home, they were getting phone calls from Chicago's Alternative Radio Station Q101 as well as venues like the Metro (among thousands of other friends and fans) offering their support for what had happened.
The band used this experience as pure motivation for what was to come. They sat in the hotel room discussing that although they had lost a lot, they still had their music, and were more motivated and ready to take on challenges more than ever before. If there is one band that can make something out of nothing, it's The Highlife, and they've been proving so ever since.
From then on, The Highlife has been recording their upcoming full length album, "Absolutely Nothing, Absolutely Everything". The CD title took meaning from their experiences on the road and the band itself, because the things around you and the things you are part of may sometimes seem like Absolutely Nothing at times, but when it comes down to your life and what you stand for, it's Absolutely Everything.
