"UNC Demo Review"

Published: Monday, December 8, 2008
Updated: Monday, December 8, 2008

The Holly Days are a breath of fresh air in the current age of no good music. The band hails from Charlotte and the four-member band currently has five songs ready for listening on its MySpace Page and they are all worth a listen.
The members, Eston, Ben, Henry and Alex, are all immensely talented at what they do; Ben and Henry actively switch bass and guitar leads, on a whim. This band is relatively new, but is actively promoting its name throughout the arts and entertainment community.
The Holly Days have been critically reviewed by Creative Loafing and its view of these guys falls no shorter than mine. They produce a great sound, everything meshes well, their display of potential leads me to believe they will accomplish much in the coming years.
Their music is an eclectic mix of funky bass lines and genuine guitar riffs that take the listener on a relaxing journey, the vocals bring it all together. The music is mostly a moderate b.p.m. (beat per minute) count, effectively allowing the listener to keep time with the music; it's not of the headbanging sort, but one can easily get sucked into the music. They go beyond the transcendent "rock," including their own spice in the mix, something almost unheard of since the late '90s.
The Holly Days opened for Von Iva at the Milestone back on Nov. 13, and it was an incredible show, even with the almost non-existent fan base at the venue that night. Interested in hearing these guys live? Well, SK Netcafe on Elizabeth Avenue here in Charlotte is hosting the Holly Days on Dec. 13 at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door. There will be a three-band lineup, in addition to the Holly Days, playing that night are the Mangles and Case Federal & the Agents.

"Creative Loafing Nov. 2008"

The Have and Have Nots/Matthew Paul Butler & the Beards of Power/The Holly Days A trio of next-generation Charlotte acts offering solid proof of a burgeoning local scene.

The Holly Days are so new they're practically still in the wrapper, but there's no masking their soul inclinations via the MySpace stuff, like your iPod is playing Style Council and Nixon-era Lambchop simultaneously. Snug Harbor (John Schacht)

Bio

The Holly Days are a Charlotte based quartet, that formed in the fall of 2008. The band writes and plays songs reminiscent of late 50’s and early 60’s pop bands such as the Beatles and Buddy Holly, infusing each of their own interests with a twenty first century edge. With all original material, The Holly Days bring a nostalgic sound with a new flavor that easily pleases modern audience tastes.
