If you mated Talking Heads with Incubus you'd have a really hard time having a baby. But if they did, and it mutated with some of Sublime's genes you might have The Hops.

Biography

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Winner for best Indie Rock song on Ourstage.com in February of 2012 for "The Walk"

Appeared on PBS show Studio A, filmed at Southern Illinois University for the Midwest region.

Rock group The Hops released a digital 4-song EP in 2009, but their new album, Won’t It Be Fun, is effectively the band’s debut. And it’s a release that, as they suggest, takes listeners on a “genre ride”—with influences that range from funk to indie to jazz to acoustic to alternative and back again. Won’t It Be Fun was produced by Ian Spudes of Gravity Studios with the help of Doug McBride (Veruca Salt, Fall Out Boy, Badly Drawn Boy).

The Walk

Written By: Bruce Stone/Patrick Tinning

This relationship belongs to me. I feel I know how it should be run
I'll take my time I'll do as I please. I hope you'll understand.
I didn't make the rules. I just play the game
And if you stick around. It just might drive you insane.
And if you don't like it (Get to steppin)
Then walk
Then walk
I've had my share of good releationships. I've had my share of bad relationships.
How many of you are in relationships and you just want out?
What's inside of you that's holding you back?
If you don't care then I don't care.
If you don't care then I don't care. About face
Then walk
I feel you've learned your lesson. I hope you decided to stay
You know if you don't like it, you best be on your way
I don't wanna argue or fight anymore and if you keep it up I'm gonna show you the door
And if you're not afraid
Then walk
Then walk

Signs

Written By: Patrick Tinning

You told me you loved me, How could I a been so stupid
You told me you loved me, How could I a been so stupid
You’re movin on, I can’t move, from where you left me standing
You’re movin on, I can’t move, from where you left me standing

I apologized for things I didn’t even do
I apologized for things I didn’t even do
If I knew what the problem was you know I’d fix it
If I knew what the problem was you know I’d fix it

I seen the signs that your hearts been driftin (driftin)
To God knows where
And if it’s tellin you to go, go on,
See if I care

We’re electric when we’re plugged in to each other
We’re electric when we’re plugged in to each other
I know I shouldn’t be shocked but I am
I know I shouldn’t be shocked but I am

I seen the signs that your hearts been driftin (driftin)
To God knows where
And if it’s tellin you to go, go on,
See if I care

You shattered my dreams, my life, it only took an instant
You shattered my dreams, my life, it only took an instant
No matter how much it kills, you won’t see me no more
No matter how much it kills, you won’t see me no more

Get out, get out, get out, get out, get out, get outta my life
Get out, get out, get out, get out, get out, get outta my life
I’m gonna tear you outta my heart
I’m gonna tear you outta my heart

I seen the signs that your hearts been driftin (driftin)
To God knows where
And if it’s tellin you to go, go on,
See if I care

There's Something

Written By: Patrick Tinning

It’s the time of night
When the talk turns grave
And the tone is low
And is itself a slave
To the curtain of night
Drawn down upon us
When you reveal
Your deepest secrets

There’s somethin’ about the twilight
That makes you think of the end
The laughter stops
There’s no more jokin
The cover’s shut
Used up
He snuck in through the shadows alright
There’s somethin’
There’s somethin’
There’s somethin’ about the twilight

When the silence we bear
Takes over our voice
And the sounds we utter
Come without a choice

There’s somethin’ about the twilight
That makes you think of the end
The laughter stops
There’s no more jokin
The cover’s shut
Used up
He snuck in through the shadows alright
There’s somethin’
There’s somethin’
There’s somethin’ about the twilight
There’s somethin’
There’s somethin’
There’s somethin’ about the twilight

Heart Cries Out

Written By: Patrick Tinning

Check my next step, It means what it means when sleep is something you skip
Lost my faith now you’re all I believe in
An approach to broach the subject on both our minds

I hope I don’t come off off the deep end
Cause I have yet to take that step
Although I am, although I am
Although I am poised and sweating, standing on the jagged cliff

My, my heart cries out in silence
My, my, my heart cries out in silence

The ocean’s darkness flows silent across the deep
Reminds me how these writings will be lost along with history
It washes away everything, only our souls remain to be seen

What I see are the colors of your soul and of your skin
And it turns to red when all the colors in my head fade out and in again

My, my, my heart cries out
My, my heart cries out
My, my heart cries out
In silence
My, my, my heart cries out
In silence

Thermometer Splits

Written By: Patrick Tinning

We come from the same ground/The same dirt
You’re gung-ho bout this operation/But I’m not
You think you got it made/But you’re doin someone’s dirty work
No I don’t wear your same uniform your shirt (shirt)

You’ve taken it signed up and you wear that symbol oh so proudly
And the chances of me ever climbin that ladder ain’t very likely

Pissed beyond belief, I ain’t got much
But I got pride and that’s good enough
Low blows are what gives, It’s hard to resist
But there’s only so many til the thermometer splits
Til the thermometer splits

And I can take the crap from the people
And I can smile and nod/I know it ain’t your problem
And I can get you booze and make you ten feet tall
But reasoning with the boss is to reason with a wall (a wall)

Oh I got a burnin fuse and it gets shorter every time
The chief gets in my ear to tell me I gotta do everything like a trained mime

I know I’m just a loser and I ain’t played my cards so great
But when the deck is stacked against you it’s real easy for your patience to break
Years and years you put in, nothing you take
Certainly, I appreciate it, but those are just words you say
