Bio

The guys (Zweli Matsebula and Brandon Chawane) met at a Monday Blues session in Melville playing with their respective bands, after that gig the guys became friends and visited one another regularly and jammed. They straightway liked one another’s styles and how they’d blend in and compliment their respective styles.

The two guys would play for other bands as front guitar players; they backed a few other bands individually. Their individual diversity in genre allowed them to work with different bands and look very natural in those different bands.
After a while they decided to sit down and concentrate on their own music and work at creating their own identity. The duo started exploring deeper in the genre they were already acquainted to and looked into new genres like pop, rock and blues. After 7 months they decided they were ready to record- they went to studio and recorded a few songs which were jams they made up on stage playing with different bands. The reason they recorded those songs is because they got great reception on stage, so it was no risk for the duo.

The experience they’d gained from playing with other bands would prove important for their performance soon after they had finished recording as they got a sudden phone call requesting that they play just a day after recording. That Saturday night gig at Pata Pata (which had just opened threes prior) was a test of skill; they didn’t have time to rehearse but still accepted the offer to play. They played from the top of their heads- a compilation of old-time jams, cover songs and songs they’d freshly recorded. That night opened many doors for the duo, they were called back by popular demand, and the second time the place was full, as a pose to the handful of people who were their audience.

They integrated and diversified their sets adding Spanish and folk jazz music which set them apart from a lot of bands they’d gig with, those styles continue to grow with every set they played. In their short history as a duo they played at Soweto Festival, Arts Alive(with MXO, Kenton of Channel0 RnB video of the year award winner 2010-Urban Reign, currently playing for LIRA, and Sliq Angel),Darkie Café, Southern Sun Hotel at O.R Tambo air port, Nikki’s Oasis, Montecasino, Kitcheners, Monash University and Pata Pata (twice). The duos continue to serenade masses with their acoustic guitars and voices. They are THE HORIZON.
