"The Hustlers to ring in St. Patty’s Day in Cherry Theater March 17"

From Staff Reports
The community is invited to ring in St. Patrick’s Day with The Hustlers at the Cherry Theater on the Columbia State campus Saturday, March 17.
The 7:30 p.m. concert features a mix of blues rock, boogie and rock and roll.
The band readily admits a heavy influence of bands like ZZ TOP and The Allman Brothers Band as they create their own type of rock with a lot of roll. The four-member band includes talented vocals from all of its members. Dennis Dungy is on guitar, Ron Galloway is on bass, Jimmy Woodard plays guitar and Tim Wilson gives the band its beat on the drums.
Arriving early for best seating is strongly encouraged. Celebrating the Wearin’ of the Greens is optional. Being ready to rock, is a must.

"The Hustlers Live at The Cherry Theater"

“THE HUSTLERS” TO ROCK COLUMBIA STATE’S CHERRY THEATER STAGE WITH FREE CONCERT
Free Concert March 27

(Columbia, Tenn. – March 18, 2010) - - - Columbia State Community College’s Student Services department and Lyceum Committee are proud to present the local rock and blues quartet “The Hustlers” in a free concert at Columbia State’s Cherry Theater on Saturday, March 27 at 7 p.m.

“Join us for an evening of rockin’ blues fun at Columbia State’s Cherry Theatre. The concert will be rocking, bluesy and free. Everyone is welcome and the show should be fun for all age groups. If you like the blues and good time rock and roll, the Hustlers are sure to please,” said Stu Lenig, professor of Speech and Drama and interim division chair for humanities at Columbia State.

“The Hustlers” feature Columbia State’s own Ron Galloway on bass, Jimmy Woodard on guitar, Tim Wilson on drums and Dennis Dungy on guitar. The quartet recently released a superior set of tunes in their debut release titled “The Hustlers” on Public Records. The album was produced by Jimmy Nalls, former guitarist with 70’s rock band, “Sea Level” and blues band “The Nighthawks,” and the much sought after Phil Dillon, producer, engineer, vocalist and member of The Buffalo Music Hall of Fame.

“The CD is a feel-good journey through American music and is only a small sample of the band’s live performance capabilities. If you can dig a little Blues, and some good ole' Rock and Roll with lots of soul, give ‘The Hustlers’ a listen,” added Lenig.

The Hustlers have been carving a very popular local reputation with appearances at Sam Hill’s Club in Columbia and a talkative hour on DJ Mojo’s “Spoonful with DJ Mojo” radio show on 91.1 FM which plays, blues, roots and bluegrass music.

“The band anchors their sound in blues and rock riffs with a touch of country and roots music. The voices are smooth and soulful. Everything seems to come easy to these blues troubadours, and the sound is smooth and sweet,” added an enthused Lenig.

For more information about this performance, contact Stuart Lenig at 931-540-2877 or visit the Lyceum Committee website at http://www.columbiastate.edu/lyceum. The American Heritage Dictionary defines rock and roll as follows: rock- and- roll- n. A form of popular music arising from and incorporating a variety of musical styles, especially rhythm and blues, country music, and gospel . It is characterized by electronically amplified instrumentation, a heavily accented beat, and relatively simple phrase structure.

This definition best represents the deep musical roots that run through the group of musicians known as The Hustlers. Heavily influenced by the music of bands ZZ TOP, and The Allman Brothers Band, The Hustlers blend musical styles to form their own brand of rock, with a little more roll

The Hustlers are:

Dennis Dungy - guitar & vocals
