The Ides

The Ides

BandAlternative

An ecclectic blend of neo-soul, r&b, rock, and funk, The Ides are undeterred by any contrived stereotypes forced upon them by the industry with their inventive brand of music.

Biography

The Ides are Andrew Choi on vocals, Jon Du on lead guitar, Peter Paik on rhythm guitar, Hayden Song on bass, Dennis Kim on drums and DJ Y-Face on the turntables. What originally began as a two person songwriting collaborative between Andrew and Peter, eventually snowballed into the band as we know it today. The product of six instruments, each manned by a unique and talented hand, is an ecclectic blend of neo-soul, r&b, funk and rock.

With an array of influences ranging from Stevie Wonder, Radiohead, Victor Wooten, Steven Curtis Chapman, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Musiq Soulchild and J-Live, The Ides' common goal is to create an inventive brand of music through the fusion of their creative differences.

A portion of The Ides released 2 songs on the Soul'd Out Entertainment Sampler in their younger years when they booked under the unknowingly copyrighted name Groove Therapy.

The Ides, free of any legal ramifications, released their debut self titled EP in March 2005.A collection of 5 original tracks, The Ides EP showcases the evolution of the band's songwriting efforts. The band considers their first EP an experiment, laying the groundwork for their hypothesis both musically and socially- that their identities as musicians and individuals will not be compromised by outside pressure to sound or look a certain way. The new EP is available on their website www.theidesmusic.com and is available at their shows.

Only 9 months into their birth as a full band, The Ides have already played such prestigious New York City venues as Hammerstein Ballroom and The Knitting Factory. In 2005, The Ides will continue to tour and write new material in anticipation of their full length album. They remain secretive about when the LP will be released.
