Bio
An eclectic East Texas based rock group, The Imaginary Band has been a work in progress for nearly 27 years. They're currently enjoying their first outing as a trio.
JD and Elbert first met and played together in 1979, beginning "phase one" of The Imaginary Band. Stacy, always late for practice, came along in 1985. They've been together off and on ever since, always managing to pick up wherever they last left off. Over time each member has gone astray, wandering off to self-indulge in this or that fleeting flirtation and odd one night stand with other bands and musical projects, inevitably coming back to their senses and The Imaginary Band - a trend-defying bastion of timelessness, that is altogether spirited, thoughtful, rocking, atmospheric, engaging and real.
In February of 2004, after another lengthy hiatus, the three met in an old abandoned (and haunted) movie theater in Tyler, Texas, to jam "just for the fun of it." This soon turned into pre-production for "Old Soul Shine," their first CD, recorded with producer, engineer, and musician Bob Gentry.
The band, being a mix of diverse talents and influences, often defies a clear cut description or comparison. Nevertheless, people have detected traces and hints of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Tom Petty, and REM threading through the group's original songs. And the band will often toss in a cover tune by one or the other of the aforementioned artists to give listeners a point of reference. Just in case people were wondering where these guys are coming from.
One thing that separates this band from so many others is their long and storied history, and the fact that they are almost telepathically tight, both musically and as friends. They each have come back to The Imaginary Band interested only in playing this music with these musicians simply for the love of it, all the rest is just frosting on the cake.
