Bio

Born August 13, 1971 in Mound Bayou, Mississippi.
Williams Lee Phillips p/k/a Maniacal 8:13 & “The Immortal 8:13” is the youngest of 8 siblings. He is married and has 3 wonderful children (1 daughter and 2 sons). His mother Annie relocated to Saginaw Michigan somewhere around 1974 where in a single parent home with a very strong hand she raised him. He never really got to know his father; their relationship was one of few phone calls and occasional checks in the mail. William was brought up in the church where he sang in the choir and often led praise and worship service. Shortly after the loss of his mother on May 31, 2006, William rededicated himself and his life to the Lord and the will of God. Although he suffers from depression due to post trumatic stress syndrome he finds solace in his music and his many business endeavors.
As an accomplished songwriter, (ghostwriter), executive producer, artist and entrepreneur William has been deeply rooted in the Hip Hop/R&B world for well over 20 years.
At age 9 he began writing poetry, by the age of 11 he was heavily dipping into songwriting with his older brother Grover Phillips (who would later become professionally known as Dezi Phillips). This would later prove to be very beneficial in the molding of the artist known as Mr. Maniacal.
Shortly after Dezi scored a major recording deal with CBS/Tabu records in the late 80’s, William began working on a rap project for Dezi to present to his management and legal advisory team. Year after year, promises and guarantees were made, but still William’s project was not taken serious enough to be presented to his brother’s managerial team.
Frustrated with wasted time, at the age of 23 William decided to start his own independent record label. After gaining employment with General Motors/Delphi in 1995 he would finally have the capital to put into making his vision a reality. In late 1996 Maniacal Enterprises was born. William began working with Jeff Chandler, (a friend of his brother Dezi) on a group project that they would call The Criminal Element. After 10 plus years of slow to no progress and some droughts of not talking to or working on anything musically for stretches of 2 years at a time, again William became frustrated with the lack of progress. He severed the business relationship with Jeff Chandler in late 1999. It was then that he began working with Lavel Jackson at Famouz Basement Tapez Productions and James 12 Erby of Platinum Bound Productions.
This would prove to be the type of business relationship’ that William needed. He and Lavel began working on “The Point Of No Return.” What started, as a one-song deal for a project Lavel was working on for a label in Atlanta, Georgia would become the signature sound and type of Hip Hop underground, and hardcore sound that William was looking for!
With over 250 written songs to his credit (¼ of them recorded), William is one of the most prominent and prolific songwriter/artists to have never had a major record deal in the Midwest and possibly abroad.
He has been instrumental in helping with the development of the careers of “The Killaz Local 989”, Megan Seard, the “True Hustle Records” camp, and countless others and is currently working on a new business venture with a longtime friend Sylvester Davis of SagSoNastyMusik/Mouthpiece Entertainment.
William recently started an all-Hip Hop/R&B label (dedicated strictly to the old school Hip Hop sound) called Hip Hop Immortal Records and will begin signing new acts for development and production deals in early 2008. He will also began writing a book in late 2007 titled “When all else fails.” Of course there is much more about the life and times of Williams Phillips still to come but until then, wait for the book!
