The Inches are a 4 piece groove driven pop-rock combo from Melbourne Rock City. Together with their Swedish Colombian Svengali, The Inches have most definitely taken the path less travelled. The band formed in late 2004 around the song writing of singer/guitarist Andrew Furze and Writer/Producer Jaime Jimenez, recording their debut EP before they had played a single show.
The addition of close friends Luke Bolton (bass), Joe Cope (keys) and Manny Bourakis (drums) helped fully realize a dream of creating rock “with a touch of elegance” – utilising the psychedelic ambience of classic keyboards and an encyclopaedic reference of 40 years of classic rock’n’roll.
Thus it was that The Inches emerged in 2005, fully formed and eager to burst out of the Melbourne scene. They first hit the airwaves with “Undercover”, a song about world corruption, abusive powers and paranoia. An overwhelming response by youth station Triple J hoisted The Inches onto a national audience. Their explosive live shows garnered the 70’s influenced band a burgeoning fan base in a city gripped by an 80’s new-wave epidemic.
Fast-forward to 2006 and The Inches have signed to a major label, recorded their debut LP and finished their first national tour. The band’s live show has evolved to truly be a sum of the parts – four distinct, almost characters in a heady, theatrical swirl that can leave you confused as where to look.
Their music is a nod of the head towards 1970’s rock pantheons, like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Bowie and T- Rex, providing a canvas - the barest of bones - with which to construct their songs. It is fun, it is unashamedly pop-rock, and most importantly, it is honest.
