"Equal to All, Second to None"

The Edgar Winter Band capped off the 2004 edition of the Thunder Bay Blues Festival with an over-the-top performance that one awed spectator described in an excited gasp with the words, "Edgar Winter blew me away!"

It was even more fitting that the final musical note of a truly impressive weekend was actually played about three hours later by the phenomenal Roy Young .... It was after all Young, perhaps the dominant musical personality of the festival ... that so admirably filled the Friday night performance slot vacated by ailing headliner Eric Burdon’s last minute cancellation. Genuine, always smiling, ever approachable and a terrific entertainer, Young related a story during the course of the weekend about his dear friend, the late, great George Harrison and three words of support and encouragement that he left behind. "Never give up."

So, thank you Roy Young, thank you George Harrison, thank you Thunder Bay Blues Festival Association and thank you Thunder Bay for keeping those Blues alive! See you all next year. - Ken Wright. Thunder Bay Blues Society

"Baldry Tribute"

It was such a wonderful tribute at Hugh’s Room on behalf of the dearly missed Long John Baldry ... The stage was then yielded to ..... British keyboard great Roy Young whose boundless talent and energy has abetted the likes of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and of course, Long John Baldry. Stunning versions of Great Balls Of Fire, Blue Monday, Jambalaya, and Lucille would shake the club to its very rafters.

Between songs, fond reminiscences of how Baldry had touched so many individuals--both on a personal and artistic basis--made a profound impression. Any Baldry tribute must incorporate lots of Boogie Woogie and Roy Young demonstrated why he’s considered the master of that genre. - Gary Tate

"British Invasion"

However liberal or stringent your definition of the word "legend" might be, Eric Burdon, charismatic lead singer of The Animals, Roy Young, dynamic vocalist and outrageous boogie-woogie keyboardist and Ten Years After, hard rocking instigators of the second British Invasion definitely qualify. - Ken Wright

"Canadian Music Week"

Seasoned keyboard wizard, Roy Young ended off the multi-band night at Healey’s on Fri. March 1, 2002 with a bang. He and his band know how to Rock ‘n’ Roll – and why? Because of their love for good old rock ‘n’ roll, and the inspiration that their founding member, Roy Young, offers with his band in their spectacular renditions of Brit/Pop, Blues and American favorites from the mid-50’s to the late ‘60’s. Some of the Beatles’ tunes Roy and his band played were, an emotional "Nowhere Man", and a very harmonic "Strawberry Fields", followed by a moving "Eleanor Rigby". Roy’s extremely rousing keyboards and sheer joy of entertaining a crowd, were returned ten fold with roars of applause after each energized number. His friendly rapport with and smiles to the audience is the positive emotional bond that keeps audiences coming back again and again.
Roy is in some people’s eyes, (mine included), an early founding member of the Beatles in the pre-Ringo era. He’s still an accomplished and talented piano player, and always gets a roaring approval from fans wherever he plays. This reminds me of the time well over a year ago, when I first met Roy, and was privileged to see and hear his great talent perform live, right in front of me! (Awed I was then – and awed I am now!) This occurred at Jeff Healey’s remarkable club, Healey’s, as part of a special Indie night held there. That was March 1, 2002, and a very special night for everyone lucky enough to be at Jeff’s club, witnessing a living legend like Roy, entertain the socks off everyone there – leaving them enthralled with every number. - Joe Curtis

"Canada South Blues Society"

Roy Young, whose appearances in London over the years with former bandmates Long John Baldry and Ian Hunter have won him a raft of fans both here and across our nation, is long overdue for a London visit. His own personal rock and roll history has seen him share stages with virtually every British superstar act from the 60s through the 80s, and many major American stars as well. - Greg Simpson
