"Local bands want to help you ring in the new year"

After forming in 2004 but enduring a few lineup changes, hip-hop group The Insomniacs is looking for a strong 2006 with more shows and the release of a debut CD. Led by Brandon “50/50” Reed, the group features a mix of styles from soul singer Phil “So Real” Davenport, street rapper Parrish “Lord Rain” Shepherd and the old-school Andre “Dapper Dan” McGee. Reed said Insomniacs songs have positive messages. Each member hails from a different region of the Midwest: Chicago, Muncie, South Bend and Decatur, Ill. Reed, 29, has been performing since he was 12 when he performed a piano recital and sang “Amazing Grace” at a nursing home.
# When: 8 p.m.
# Where: Rowdy’s, 720 Northwestern Ave.
# How much: $7
# Also: The show will have a “Player’s Ball” theme, and costumes are encouraged. - The Journal & Courier

Bio

We are the Insomniacs because work hard night and days. Booking show, doing shows, balancing life and music and having fun while we do it. We will sleep when we die. Right now we are hitting stages all across the Midwest and looking for opportunities everywhere. The Insomniacs are a perfect mixture of Hip Hop & R & B. Each of the members has comes from a different musical background. For the rappers influences range from from everybody from Jay Z to the Roots and Tupac. The singers in the group list Al Green & Stevie Wonder. We take the music and put the Insomniacs twist on it to great our original sound. We like to party and have fun. So, our performances win over crowds of all types all over the Midwest. You don't necessarily need to know our music to enjoy our performance. Really don't even need to be a fan of Hip Hop & R&B. We will make friends with you before we are through. Guaranteed! We have opened up for Juelz Santana, Young Joc, Ice T, Too Short, Bubba Sparxxx...
