The Intolerants

The Intolerants

BandRock

The Intolerants are a DIY punk band hailing from Portland, OR. They've been described as "Bo Diddley on speed" with their rhythm based instrumentation and old rock n' roll influence.

Biography

The Intolerants are a punk duo originally from Madison, Wisconsin, and currently residing in Portland, Oregon. We play fast, rhythmic punk that is a commentary on society and human depravity. We have a strong DIY ethic and a tendency to be slightly off kilter.
We write and play music because God, our Creator, made us to be musicians; we worship and adore Him by being who He created us to be. Our band is not about fame or fortune, but is instead about living out the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Lyrics

Necessity Is Not Enough

Written By: The Intolerants

What kind of sick society,
Would take Christ's birth and turn it into a shopping spree?
On the birthday on the One who took all of our debt,
We look for the card that hasn't been maxed out yet!

Necessity is not enough I've got to get more and more stuff,
Want it, grab it, newest, latest, shiny gadget,
Necessity is not enough I've got to get more and more stuff,
Don't shop, don't buy, don't horde, don't comply, instead just give it away.

What kind of bent society,
Tramples a human being just to spend more money?
Yesterday they gorged themselves now they're breaking down the doors,
Hungry, lost and empty possession whores.

(Refrain)

What kind of rank society,
Depends on and condones such poisonous activity?
To think that much of the world stands atop these "values",
Bowed down to paper and plastic and store bought statues.

(Refrain)

House of White

Written By: The Intolerants

Man has built his house of white from which to rule the world,
His proud heart seeks power and he thinks he has control,
Man has built his house of white to exalt himself above all,
To worship the work of his hands, the idols great and small.

He who sits in heaven laughs
For in the last days He
Will establish His holy mountain
And all will finally see.

You Don't See a Hearse Pulling a U-Haul

Written By: The Intolerants

Cause you can't leave this earth with your pockets full of money,
You can't even take just a smidge of milk and honey,
The Reaper doesn't come to tell you when to pack,
And you can't lock it up to unlock when you get back.
Gold and silver and benjamins and Bentleys,
Mansions on the sea and gadgets from Japan,
Are striving after wind when you're eating roots of daisies,
When God says, "It's time" and you kick the can.

New to old, from clean to rust
Your possessions and wealth all become dust.

Cause a suitcase won't fit on the journey to eternity,
Not a penny or a shirt nor a house or a city,
When death comes knocking at your door, c'est la vie, say no more,
You go as you came whether rich or poor.
Gold and silver and benjamins and Bentleys,
Mansions on the sea and gadgets from Japan,
Are striving after wind when you're eating roots of daisies,
When God says, "It's time" and you kick the can.

(Chorus)

Rob the Vote

Written By: The Intolerants

Give a speech to defend the priest and steal his vote just to stay the least,
Start a campaign for the old and lame, be nice to them now it'll bring more fame,
All that matters, the percentage point, anything to bring more coin,
Humanist values, message sent, on the right track to be President.

We want emancipation!
Freedom from manipulation!

Have a debate: Husband, wife or mate, play the donkey's side in every state,
Launch an add, a person of the people, favor pro-choice and support the steeple,
All that matters, the percentage point, anything to bring more coin,
Humanist values, message sent, on the right track to be President.

Die the American Dream

Written By: The Intolerants

He sits around with nothing to do,
Fast paced life with nothing new,
Gone 9 to 5, no time for food,
Die the American dream.

Die the American dream!

He does his part, his service to society,
America, it's got his piety,
Deceit, he won't open his eyes and see,
Dying the American dream.

Dying the American dream!

He lived his life a normal guy,
His family a mess, who knows why?
Laid to rest, never said, "Goodbye",
He died the American dream.

He died the American dream!

We do our duty,
We've got things under control,
But where's our hope?
Do you have hope?
Are you dying the American Dream?

You die the American dream!
You're dying the American dream!
He died the American dream!
We're all dying the American dream!

Smash the Clones

Written By: The Intolerants

Who needs a mirror when there's TVs everywhere?
Look into it and see yourself.
Who needs a mirror when the magazines are there?
Take the pages and glue them to your face.

Smash the mirror, smash the mirror,
Hit it with a sledge!
Smash the mirror, smash the mirror,
Throw it of a cliffs edge!
