The Invaders

Publish Date: 24-Feb-2005
EP (Independent)
I remember The Invaders very well. The year was 1967, I was 10, and it was a brand-new sci-fi TV series, a “Quinn Martin production” about the alien invasion of Earth. I distinctly recall throwing a fit and crawling under the kitchen table because my folks wouldn’t let me watch the premiere episode I’d seen advertised for weeks; they were intent on viewing some stupid black-and-white British program called The Avengers instead. (This was still a few years before I learned to appreciate Diana Rigg in a zippered jump suit.)
But enough about me. Lemme just say that the Invaders is a great name for a rock band and that this local quartet certainly does the moniker justice. Comprised of former members of the Deadcats, the Mean Reds, Undermars, DD Astor, Los Disastros, the Windups, Aquavelva, and Ringpiece, the Invaders hint at world domination of the power-pop genre with these five extremely catchy numbers, smartly produced by Damn the Diva alumnus Jerry Wong. The musical stylings of “Farfisa operator” Dusty Idaho are topnotch, and guitarist-vocalist Jake Jacob’s words of wisdom flow freely between the layers of ringing guitars. “4 Door” sports the line: “If you drive a four-door that’s pre-1970 then you’ve got it all”. And to think I used to have it all, in the form of a ’66 Dodge Monaco station wagon with faux wood–panelling on the sides. But enough about me. Go see the Invaders at The Railway Club in Vancouver on Saturday (February 26).

"Invaders Invasion"

With a rollicking EP of Farfisa and guitar-driven rock 'n' roll and praise from local promoter Frank Rumbletone to their credit, the Invaders are on a roll. Along with Violently Hot, the Vancouver band plays the Buffalo Club Feb. 2. Cover charge in effect.
